Original Late 1960s UK Mono Pressing
Rare 1969 Labels w/ No "SOLD IN U.K." text on either side
PARLOPHONE PMC 7027 : MATRIX NOs XEX-637-1/XEX-638-1
This version of the label design didn't last long, only pressed for around a few months in 1969 when mono demand was rather low. Afterwards, Sgt. Pepper was transferred to the "One Box" label pressings and then EMI's mono catalogue was deleted shortly afterwards, making these pressings rather uncommon and difficult to find.
The vinyl is in Very Good + condition. It has a very nice shine on both sides with a few visible scuffs / sleeve removal marks. There is some small spindle wear on the labels and a few signs of careful play. The audio is very nice, very loud and confident throughout but there is some very small surface static in some quieter segments and more importantly, a couple of small nicks on Side 2, which are photographed. These don't cause jumps but they do cause pops / ticks for a few rotations as they're played through. There's also a really tiny mark at the very end of "A Day In The Life" that causes some small rotational clicks. If not for those flaws, the record would easily grade as Excellent or perhaps even higher. I think summing your cartridge to mono will help to reduce the impact of the pops and reduce what little surface noise there is. Overall it's not 100% perfect, but it's very enjoyable!
Please note that my photographs don't capture the condition of the record's surfaces as well as I'd like them to. The surfaces aren't 100% spotless but they are still rather nice :)
The album cover is in Very Good + Condition. Very nice, vibrant and holding together great! The only demerits are some small wear to the corners, some marks to the front laminate and some small laminate lifting on the inside and some small wear to the openings. The inside image looks absolutely stunning on this one and the spine is still nice and intact, fully white and clear!
Includes the original blank white inner sleeve which curiously has a date stamped in it. It's holding together nicely with no seam splits. Also included are the original set of Sgt. Pepper cutouts which are in quite nice shape.
This copy may not be for the most discriminating audiophile due to the pops, however it is still in a nice, very playable condition and it could be a great addition for any Beatles collector as these late-69 pressings aren't seen too often.
