THE BEATLES - SGT. PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND

A sought after and increasingly hard to come by (especially in condition as impressive as this) 1969 UK pressing of this Beatles masterpiece on the black and silver, and rarer, SINGLE box EMI Parlophone record label, STEREO PMC 7027. Gorgeous!

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   YEX 637 - 1 with stampers "3" and "GPG" at 9 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively

Side 1   YEX 638 - 1 with stampers "4" and "GPP" at 9 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively

The overall appearance and condition of the nicely thick and completely flat vinyl is excellent plus (EX+). In normal daylight the vinyl comes across as near perfect with a gleaming jet black sheen and looking beautiful! With closer scrutiny under a bright light just a few wispy hairlines and very light paper scuff marks come into view but all are superficial, surface only and non-feelable. Clearly this is a record that has been sparingly played.

The condition of the labels is a solid excellent plus (EX+). All text along with the silver/black Parlophone logo, remains perfectly intact. Note "The Gramophone Co." in the radial text and and SINGLE EMI box, with "MADE IN GT BRITAIN" at the foot of each label - each UK early press identifiers. The only blemish (too strong a word) on each label are a few very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole, otherwise perfect.

The front and back laminated Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is again in truly excellent (EX) condition, if not better. Beautiful rich colours with great artwork and photography - vibrant, clear and unblemished throughout. Amazingly there is no scuffing on any of the edges or the spine, with each edge remaining firm. All text on the spine remains completely intact and perfectly legible, and each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with just a little rubbing at each spine corner. The only aberrations (each is very minor) are a few very light 1-2 cm horizontal laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on both the reverse and front sides, a small 5mm "nick" at the very top left corner on the front side, and just the hint of some very mild and superficial ring wear on the reverse side only noticeable when the gate fold is held at the right angle in a bright light.  The opening edges remain rigid with no fraying, all text/lyrics on the reverse side remains perfectly intact, and the richness and clarity of the colours and photos on the inside of the gatefold is truly wonderful. Overall a very solid excellent condition copy of this iconic gatefold...I am sure that many would grade as excellent plus.

Finally, the quality of the audio is again excellent plus (EX+). No skips, jumps, repeats or clicks, and just the hint of some very mild background crackle at the beginning of side 2. Terrific tone and clarity throughout even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. Sit back and enjoy, with every track making for a great listen on this timeless masterpiece. Comes complete the 'cut-outs' card insert (full-color, single-sided, and printed signatures of Peter Blake and Jann Haworth at the foot), in near perfect condition - just a very minor light and non-obvious 10cm vertical abrasion at the top left corner.

Comes complete with original, excellent condition plain white inner with "PATENTS APPLIED FOR" and "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" horizontal text, with no tears or splits and remaining 100% fully functional. There is a hand written name and address on the reverse side, however, along with "THE BEATLES " and "SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND". Note that I always post the record(s) in a new plain white inner sleeve(s) in order to protect the original(s).

In summary a very impressive and strong excellent condition copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1969 UK very early pressing Beatles masterpiece, a worthy addition to any vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard crucifix style mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
