THE BEATLES - SGT. PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND

A highly sought after and increasingly hard to come by (especially in condition as impressive as this) 1967 UK first pressing of this Beatles masterpiece, on the UK yellow & black Parlophone record label, MONO PMC 7027. Gorgeous!

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1   XEX 637 - 1 with stampers "6" and "MRG" at 8.45 o'clock and 2.45 o'clock respectively

Side 1   XEX 638 - 1 with stampers "10" and "MAA" at 10 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

The overall appearance and condition of the heavy duty vinyl is excellent (EX). The vinyl is completely flat and in normal daylight comes across as near perfect with a gleaming jet black sheen and looking beautiful! With closer scrutiny under a bright light a few wispy hairlines and very light paper scuff marks do come into view, along with a few small areas/streaks of some very slight "dulling", on each side of the vinyl but all are superficial, surface only and non-feelable. The single exception to this is a tiny, tiny mark on side 2 which results in x2 mild clicks about two thirds of the way through the the track "WITHIN YOU WITHOUT YOU" on side 2.

The condition of the labels is a solid excellent plus (EX+). All text (silver text and the yellow "PARLOPHONE" text), along with the yellow and black Parlophone logo, remain perfectly intact. Note "The Gramophone Co." in the radial text and "Sold in the U.K. Subject To Resale Price Conditions, See Price Lists" across each label at the center, with "Made in Gt. Britain" at the foot of each label - all UK 1st pressing identifiers. The only blemish (too strong a word) on each label are a few very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole, otherwise perfect.

The front and back laminated Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve is again in truly excellent (EX) condition, if not better. Beautiful rich colours with great artwork and photography - vibrant, clear and unblemished throughout. Amazingly there is no scuffing on any of the edges or the spine, with each edge remaining firm. All text on the spine remains completely intact and perfectly legible, and each corner remains a perfectly defined right angle with minimal rubbing. The only aberrations (each is very minor) are a very small area of laminate lift at the bottom right corner on the front side, some (x5 on each side) 1cm surface laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the spine, a little crinkling and lifting of the laminate on the inside centre spine (you can hear it "crinkle" as you open the gatefold), x3 1.5cm laminate surface creases in the bottom right quadrant on the front side, a very small nick and an ever so slightly discoloured area towards the top right corner (hardly noticeable - possibly there was a sticker here at some stage), a couple of light nicks on the reverse side opening edge, and just the merest hint of some very mild ring wear on the reverse side - again, barely noticeable. I do stress just how minor these blemishes are and in most cases you have to tilt the gatefold in the right light in order to identify them. The opening edges remain rigid with no fraying, all text/lyrics on the reverse side remains perfectly intact, and the richness and clarity of the colours and photos on the inside of the gatefold is truly wonderful. Overall a very solid excellent condition copy of this iconic gatefold...I am sure that many would grade as excellent plus.

Finally, the quality of the audio is overall excellent (EX). No skips, jumps, or repeats and no nasty clicks though I did notice x2 mild clicks about two thirds of the way through track 1, side 2. There is just a little, very mild and background, light crackle at the beginning and end of each side, during some of the interludes, and occasionally during some quieter moments but this really is background and non-intrusive. There is nothing here to spoil the overall wonderful MONO audio quality with great tone and clarity throughout, even at higher frequency and higher volume. Not quite perfect but certainly an overall solid "excellent" with every track making for a great listen. The tracks are :

Comes complete the 'cut-outs' card insert (full-color, single-sided, and printed signatures of Peter Blake and Jann Haworth at the foot), in unused mint condition.

Comes complete with original, excellent condition plain white inner with "PATENTS APPLIED FOR" and "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" horizontal text, with no tears or splits and remaining 100% fully functional. Excellent!  Note that I always post the record(s) in a new plain white inner sleeve(s) in order to protect the original(s).

In summary a very impressive and strong excellent condition copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1967 UK very first pressing Beatles masterpiece, a "must" for any serious Beatles vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard crucifix style mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
