TRUE FIRST PRESSING IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

NO "Nems Enterprises LTD., 1967" At Lower Left Corner Of Back Jacket

NO "Subsidiary" On Labels Which Later Appeared On All Capitol Pressings

NO Mention Of Maclen Publishing On Lower Right Hand Rear Corner

NO "All Rights For United States, Canada, Mexico and the Phillipines Controlled By Maclen Music" At The Lower Right Corner

Both the LP and the JACKET feature the early typo on the song title "A Little Help From My Friends" which was corrected on the later LP Labels to "WITH A Little Help From My Friends"  A SIMILAR SET RECENTLY SOLD ON EBAY FOR OVER $1000 !  ABOUT $750 TOO MUCH I THOUGHT, BUT IT HAPPENED.  THIS IS A RARE AND BEAUTIFUL SET IN FLAWLESS CONDITION.  I'VE NEVER SEEN ONE THIS NICE.

This record has been played through twice on a Marantz 6300 Turntable with 3.1 grams of stylus weight solely for the purpose of ratig its playback quality.  Seen below are the VISUAL and PLAY GRADE ratings of the Vinyl and the VISUAL grades of the jacket and inserts.

SIDE ONE VINYL - VISUAL RATING   NEAR MINT PLUS with only 4 paper scuffs of the most faint quality to be seen at an angle under direct light.  These extremely superficial scuff lines extend from the innermost trail-off outward extending accross a portion of the last two tracks.  SPINDLE HOLE IS PERFECT AND CLEAN.

PLAYBACK RATING  MINT MINUS with only ultra-faint compressed dust ticking to be heard during the very quietest part of "She's Leaving Home" when played at a midrange to loud volume level.  There is NO Background sound between tracks and any sound to be heard other than music is considered Loud Air.

SIDE TWO VINYL - VISUAL RATING  MINT MINUS is given as the record is open and has been played.  There are NO Marks, scuffs or Scratches of any kind to this side to be seen under direct light.  It is a beautiful thing to behold!!  SPINDLE HOLE IS PERFECT AND CLEAN.

PLAYBACK RATING  MINT MINUS is again given as the record is open and has been played a number of times.  There is only extremely faint compressed dust ticking to be heard at high, loud volume levels which I would again describe as LOUD AIR and there is NO Background sound between tracks. NO SONIC DEGRADATION.

JACKET RATES A VERY SOLID NEAR MINT and is constructed of heavy cardboard.  The classic gatefold cover is rigid when opened and springs closed as it has been very lightly handled over these 40 years.  The front cover has extremely light wear across the top of the blue background image, but NO Ringwear is to be seen.  The Back of the jacket shows very light Ringwear to the top portion and at the 7 O' Clock position and again faintly at the bottom.  The title seam is clean, rigid and fully legible with no scuffing or wear and only age appropriate discoloration from exposure.  The inner jacket photo of the Fabs is PERFECT and clear.  Please see the photos below.

CUT-OUT INSERT RATES MINT  and is perfect and unblemished, flat and fully intact

PSYCHEDELIC INNER SLEEVE (As Designed By The Fool) RATES MINT MINUS as it is clean, flat, without folds or splits and has only very light yellowin to the outer most white portion of the design.

AND JUST SO YOU KNOW......this Historical Album was produced by George Martin and was mixed to Mono on two 4-track reel to reel mixers that were far from State-Of-The-Art (take note that in 1960 Ray Charles was recording on an 8-track reel to reel that dwarfed the immediate abilities of the tandem 4 tracks at EMI).  The system ws supplied by EMI/Parlophone and was the lesser of the EMI studios as was the Parlophone label.  It is miraculous that the Beatles, specifically John Lennon and George Martin, had the talent to mix upwards of 50 tracks ping-ponged (a process of stacking recorded tracks which left the track unable to be changed in any way without effecting all the other tracks) onto such a proficient Mono sound.  Lennon and McCartney swore by the Mono mixes of their careers together as the better of the mixes in relation to Stereo blends which then were often just Mono mixes panned across the Stereo set-up at fluctuated volume, compression and equalized levels for effect.

The only shortcoming of the U.S. offering (as opposed to U.K./British Pressings) is that the backwards 3 second nonsensical recording that J. Lennon had recorded and placed at the very end of "A Day In The Life" was not put on the U.S. release.  This mix at the end was designed by John to offer a "sound effect" which played on indefinitely on a turntable that did not automatically turn off at the end of the record.  This was done so that listeners who were either unable or unwilling to get up and take off the record would have something to listen to as long as it was left turned on....very creative and well conceived for the day!

THIS IS SGT. PEPPER AS THE BEATLES INTENDED IT SOUND.  NOT ONLY IN A MONO MIX, BUT ON A NEAR PERFECT HEAVY DUTY HEAVY VINYL ANOLOG DISC.  NO DIGITAL FOOLISHNESS HERE GANG!
