This album is offered from my personal collection. It is my top-prized piece, also the rarest record LP I've ever come across in my lifetime of record collector. I acquired this album about twenty years ago from a former record collector who bought it during a trip he made late 70's to England and brought it with him when he returned home.

The LP was purchased in London from a small (boutique) record store. The owner inheritated this album from his father who received it as a gift from one of the Parlophone Record Co. executives.

This is a pre-production album pressed for the Parlophone internal use before June 1967 when the commercial Sgt. Pepper's LP was released. It is not a "test pressing" or a "promo" album. Being a pre-production, this LP was pressed before those known as "test" or "promo" albums. The exact date of pressing in 1967 of this very special Sgt. Pepper's album is unknown.

PMC 7027 (catalog number printed on right of label, same line with the spindle hole)

THE GRAMOPHONE CO. LTD... (worded around the rim of label)

Plastic and paper inner sleeve (generic sleeve used in the 60's by various U.K. record companies). No inserts and no color psychedelic inner sleeve as in the commercial release.

The following information is etched in the runout wax:

- at 9 o'clock (mother number): blank on both sides of record

- at 6 o'clock (matrix numbers): XEX 637-1 (side one) and XEX 638-1 (side two)

- at 3 o'clock (stamper codes): PP (side one) and HG (side two) - "PP" standing for "Pre-Production"

The Parlophone U.K. commercial / stock LPs of the Sgt. Pepper's have identification information etched in all three areas of the runout wax, also a number at the end of the matrix numbers indicating the pressing history (such as "1", "2", "3", and so forth).

SPECIAL REMARKS:

This is the only copy I've ever seen without any purchase tax code information etched at 9 o'clock or handwritten on side one label (left of center hole). All Parlophone U.K. commercial / stock first and early releases of the Sgt. Pepper's LP have visible such information - usually the 'KT' purchase code - overall three identifiers and not only two as in the album offered here.

CONDITION:

- front cover is Exc. having the following flaws: left upper corner is slighlty rubbed-pushed inside; a few short light creases by the upper edge and upper left corner; a few minor wrinkles on the laminated folio in the right area by the opening edge; several light short creases by the bottom edge; minor wear on the opening edge; light overall aging on the laminated folio;

- back cover is between Exc. to NM having the following flaws: a few short light creases by the upper edge, bottom edge and spine; one very small identation on the upper area of the opening edge; light overall aging on the laminated folio;

- fully laminated gatefold cover with inner-flipback design, soft material (both inner covers are NM overall having only one light crease by the upper edge of first inner cover)

- the spine is Exc. having a minor damage over the printing that is much of it obliterated;

- vinyl is close to NM side one having the following flaws: one very short tiny surface mark on track one; a few very superficial sleeve marks;

- vinyl is Exc. side two having the following flaws: one very short surface mark on track one; several very light surface marks; a few very superficial sleeve marks.

None of the surface marks are deep or feelable.

Play-tested, the record sounds as close as possible to MINT displaying only a few occasional minor crackles audible during slow passages or between tracks. Still a fully playable and enjoyable album with clean and strong signal overall. The record was played but not abused in any way.

Extremely rare "PRE-PRODUCTION" copy of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's 1967 U.K. Parlophone MONO LP. Estimated to exist in a very small number of copies in the whole world. A true super rarity, almost impossible to be found again!

The top price paid for an U.K. Parlophone Sgt. Pepper's LP, first 1967 pressing in stereo PCS 7027, was GBP 1905 (circa 3,000 US dollars) - Popsike source (eBay auctions).

The album offered here is worth a lot more due to its mega rarity and special pressing. More than highly recommended to any Beatles fan and collector!
