Background
This and the Pink Floyd record I recently sold came from the same place. A designer friend of mine -and his brother who worked for EMI promotions-used to have the record covers sealed in plastic around their studio -so they have survived in beautiful condition. Neither were as careful with the actual records but as you will see below everything is fine.
Condition COVER/ insert/ inner sleeve
As you can see the main gatefold is in lovely condition-it still has the slight 'crack' SOUND as the cover is opened. And because it was sealed up for years it still smells fresh. If you look very hard at the front and tilt it there is a small impression of an 'A' -without the tilting, it's unlikely you'd see it.
The spine is clean and legible and is, I think, the normal thin type simply stating
'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band'
The cut outs sheet is complete and clean
'The Fool' inner sleeve has been internally repaired along the middle of two seams. It has some creasing, and one side has folded over and unlike the rest of the cover shows some wear.
RECORD
This record has been deep cleaned
The label as you can see has some wear around the spindle-on both sides. But apart from that and some spindle traces the label is in very nice shape
The record does have light hairlines (and a few marks) over the surface on both sides.
One mark-which goes round and has a slightly raised surface (pictured) and looks nasty actually seems to do nothing-oh and the little white dots on the image are just dust from the cleaning. As with the Floyd LP the hairlines and marks are superficial. I have deep cleaned it twice.
It plays clean and sharp. Again, as with the Floyd LP, I have tried it on two systems-and it seems fine
It also seems louder than I remember
The VG grade is for how it looks (especially the circular mark-which is, as I have indicated looks unpleasant, but seems harmless) but the sound seems better than the visual.
Overall, a lovely item.
