Earliest black and yellow label with "Sold In UK" etc. text at centre of record labels, and "The Gramophone Co.." at perimeters.

K/T tax code embossed to centre of A side label.

Side One:

XEX 637-1 / MGO / (H 7?)

XEX 638-1 / A (H or M?) / P (??8).

Hard to read these clearly, as some of the stamping is blurred and indistinct.

Visually a VG- issue. A fair amount of spider trail marks visible around the spindle areas. Surfaces starting to dull a little and displaying a large number of light hairline marks, some of which are visible. There are no really deep scratches or gouges however.

Playback is somewhat better than surfaces would indicate and would grade as a VG. Some low level crackle audible at run-ins and a few other instances during quieter patches. None of this is at a loud level however, and it is not continuous throughout the LP. There are no loud ticks or clicks, and on the whole the LP still provides a comfortable enough although not perfect listening experience.

This issue includes a repeated groove/band of "white noise" in the run-out grooves after the final track (A Day In The Life) on side two.

Labels are clean and undefaced both sides with just a little minor whitening near centre hole areas.

Housed in fully laminated, visible inner-flipback gatefold "Printed and Made by Garrod & Lofthouse" mono sleeve. This is broadly clean and without sticker marks or tears. Tiny penned name to rear right hand corner. Some light rubbing and the odd laminate crease/pinch mark, including a diagonal crease line to bottom left corner, but overall front and rear panel still have an acceptably clean and bright appearance. Inner of gatefold is clean and unmarked. although with small areas of surface loss to each corner. Perhaps sleeve was displayed at some time. Small piece of loss of surface laminate loss to top centre edge of inner of gatefold. Some wear to head and foot of spine and tips. Scuffy seam split to centre of spine and tidier seam split to bottom edge. Else tops and bottom edges in fairly good order.

Includes original red and white inner sleeve. This is a little creased and feathered at top edge, including a small closed tear. Small penned inscription to one top corner, and a small single pen line to reverse side. Centre seam splits to all three closed egdes.

Original "cut out" sheet is in excellent condition bar small diagonal corner crease to bottom left hand corner.

Record label has "With a Little Help From My Friends", and the title and first line of this song is listed on the rear lyric sleeve as "A Little Help From My Friends", although I believe this is a common misprint.

Note that this issue is NOT housed in the rarer fourth proof sleeve, and A Day In The Life IS printed on the side two label.

In summary a fairly weathered but complete original 1967 release with a realistic starting price.

Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.

Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
