THE BEATLES - SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND
Lovely 1967 UK 1st press rare "FOURTH PROOF" copy with all original components and impressive MONO sound quality
Label number : PMC 7027 Matrix numbers : XEX 637-1 , XEX 638-1 Stampers : 1 RP / 35 MA
The condition of the vinyl is a solid very good plus (VG+) - the vinyl has retained a lovely jet black lustre and remains flat and weighty. Close inspection under a bright light reveals a few paper scuffs and wispy hairlines on each side - each non-obvious, non-feelable and appearing to be purely superficial though there is just the occasional occasional very light click and on side 2 some sporadic and extremely light background crackle - nothing to spoil a great listen though. Excellent (EX) condition labels with the only blemishes being a few barely discernible light spindle trails on each label. The "K" and "T" tax codes are embossed upon the side 1 label. Again, very good plus (VG+) condition original and very 1st press Garrod & Lofthouse FOURTH PROOF" laminated gatefold sleeve with firm and unscuffed top and bottom edges, a firm spine with some very mild intermittent scuffing though all spine text remains legible (just a couple of letters are partially obscured). Each corner remains an almost perfectly defined right angle with minimal rubbing, there is no cardboard creasing, no edge fraying on the opening sides and no laminate lifting. The inside of the gatefold is hard to fault with the all-important "Fourth Proof" text and "AR D 1321" lettering perfectly intact. The only blemishes are just the hint of some very mild ring wear on the reverse side which is only really detectable when the sleeve is held at the right angle in the right light, a little vertical separation of the laminate from the cardboard sleeve towards the top of the interior spine, and a few 1 -1.5cm non-obvious surface laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on each of the front and reverse sides. All colours, art work, photos, and text remain in great condition with perfect definition still. Very nice, fully functional, and remaining eminently presentable. The original "cut-outs" insert is unused and remains in near mint condition, and the original "Fools" red flamed inner sleeve is also present with minimal creasing, no tears or edge fraying though there is a 2cm seam split mid-way along the right vertical edge, and a very small light scuff mark adjacent to the right edge. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original. Very good plus (VG+) MONO audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, or distortion and any background crackle is at an absolute minimum (perhaps very slightly more in evidence towards the beginning of "WHEN I'M SIXTY-FOUR", a couple of the intermissions and during the run-off's - all very light) and barely impinges upon the impressive sound quality at all. You may just be able to detect the very, very occasional light background click, including x2 extremely light dull clicks during "LOVELY RITA" and two further light clicks towards the beginning of "A DAY IN THE LIFE" (you will need to listen carefully in order to detect them) - these instances are each trivial and again barely impact upon the overall terrific listening experience. Every track remains a great listen - timeless!
An overall great condition copy of this UK 1st press Beatles masterpiece with impressive MONO sound quality, but it's the rare "FOURTH PROOF" gatefold sleeve which puts this copy high up on any Beatles collector's wish list.
