Description

BEATLES UK, Beatles for Sale, early darker sleeve, original UK 1964 stereo.

PCS 3062, original UK 1964, first issue stereo yellow and black Parlophone records labels.

A UK copy in original condition, featuring:

1. a hard to find, very first UK stereo copy with an unusual first issue ‘darker’ printed sleeve. These hard to find first issue printed sleeves had a more ‘pink’ hue colour to to faces and on the rear, were a lot darker. The rear of the sleeve is particularly noticeable when compared directly with a ‘regular’, ‘lighter’ sleeve. See the comparison photo, the image on the left is the dark / pink sleeve and the image on the right is a regular ‘lighter’ sleeve. On the original ‘darker’ image on the left, the faces appear ‘pinker’ in colour and the whole photo image is darker. Attempts were soon made at the printers to try and lighten up the sleeve as it was considered that the rear of the sleeve was too dark !. It appears that the image of the Beatles was cut out and this image was then ‘pasted’ over a much lighter ‘leaf’ background image !. This theory can maybe, be seen as on the lighter image there is a distinctive ‘edge’, or outline to the Beatles which was not present on the earlier, ‘darker’ image !.

Only a small number of these first issue darker / pinker sleeves were printed as EMI were quick to change the sleeves to show a ‘lighter and clearer’ image!,

2. on side two of the record label there are the unusual letters, ‘MT’ embossed around the spindle hole. This technically should not have happened as the ‘MT’ code was no longer used after July 1963 !, and this record was made in late 1964 !.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in very good++ condition, the front and rear of the sleeve is laminated. This laminate has remained very clean and glossy. The spine is in very good++ condition and has remained clean, white and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. When the ‘gate fold’ sleeve is opened the two original ‘flip backs’, top and bottom, ie ‘fold over’ edges can be seen. Theres NO pen writing, tears, splits, stickers or sticker reside on the sleeve. To the front panel (only) to the top left and right corners there is a ‘drawing pin’ hole.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in very good++ condition and is the original, ‘Use Emitex’ inner sleeve. A well preserved inner sleeve for its age. Theres NO pen writing, tears, splits, stickers or sticker residue on the inner sleeve.

THE RECORD: side one is in very good+ condition, side two is in very good++ condition. The record has remained dark and glossy. The record is made from the original quality 1960s, thick and heavy vinyl.

The matrix are: YEX 142 – 1, the number two has been ‘stamped’ over a number of times at the factory !, and YEX 143 - 1,

The mother / stampers are: ‘1 3 H’ and ‘2 P’.

THE AUDIO: each side plays very good++, each side plays with some ‘crackle’ and some ‘pops’ heard here and there. The record lays flat on the turntable and plays with a full, loud period stereo sound.

THE LABELS: side one is in very good++ condition, there is some old ‘sticker’ residue on side one. Side two is in near excellent condition. Unusually there are the letters ‘M T’ embossed onto side two. Each label is free from any pen writing.
