BEATLES UK – Please Please Me, circa 1973 with an unusual ‘ghost’ Mono logo mispress sleeve.

PCS 3042 – black and silver two EMI box Parlophone labels.

A Stereo UK printed sleeve with a French record circa 1973, in original condition, featuring a very unusual ‘ghost’ Mono logo, see photo, if you look closely to the top front right of the sleeve you can see a ‘ghost’ image of a large Mono logo under the laminate etc !.

It was standard practice at the time for countries outside the UK to print their own record labels and press their own records to then to be put into a sleeve printed in the UK. This particular copy has the labels printed in France, the vinyl was also pressed in France with its own unique French matrix nos. etc. 

This record, features a UK non flipback sleeve with its regular reference to Stereo etc printed on the rear. For a very short while these UK sleeves had NO Stereo logo printed to the front of the sleeve. A Stereo logo was soon to re appear again and would remain on the sleeve.

This particular UK printed sleeve is usual for the following reasons:

1. by the time this sleeve would have been printed, circa 1973 EMI had deleted its Mono catalogue some years before !,  so what was a Mono logo doing on a stereo sleeve at this time ?

2. the large style Mono logo had been replaced by a small Mono logo some years before, so WHY should a large Mono logo appear again ?

3. there is an inconsistency with the publishing credits on side one of the record label, as the track ‘Ask me why’ the publishing credit reads ‘Dick James Music Co’, but on the track ‘Please Please Me’, the publishing credit just reads ‘Dick James Co’ ! ie the word ‘Music’ has  been left out !.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition, the front is laminated. The spine is in excellent condition and all the text is clear to read. For its age the white colour of the sleeve has remained very fresh and clean. There are NO splits, tears, stains, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original plain white French inner sleeve, there is no official printed text on the sleeve, the sleeve has two square bottom corners. Theres NO pen writing, tears, splits, stains, stickers or sticker residue.

THE VINYL: is in very good++ condition. The vinyl has remained very dark and glossy, it still appears to be made from thicker, heavier vinyl.

The matrix are:  YEX  94 – 1  and  YEX  95 – 1,

As this is a French pressing there is the following additional information engraved onto the ‘run out’ groove each side: side one – PCS 3042 A and M6 298109 1 and on side two -  PCS 3042 B and M6298110 1,

THE AUDIO: is excellent, the vinyl lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: are in excellent condition, the labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

PACKING  -  ALL RECORDS ARE POSTED WITH MULTI LAYERED CARD STIFFENERS FOR PROTECTION.BEFORE POSTING, THE RECORD IS REMOVED FROM THE RECORDS ORIGINAL INNER AND OUTER SLEEVES, THE RECORD IS THEN PUT INTO A SECOND PAPER INNER SLEEVE TO MINIMISE ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE IN TRANSIT. THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
