BEATLES UK - Rubber Soul LP, 1/4 mono matrix, unusual, thinner/ lighter vinyl.

PMC 1267 - original 1965 mono yellow and black Parlophone labels.

A UK album in original condition, featuring:

1. although this may appear to be a regular UK first issue from 1965, on closer inspection the record is, I would say 30% thinner than a regular UK first issue copy and therefore, not surprisingly I would say it feels as if it is 50% lighter in weight ! than a regular UK first issue copy, making the record very unusual !,

2. the records matrix and mother/stampers are all EMI, so it is not a ‘Decca’ contract pressing !,

3. a more unusual 1/4 matrix. After the original 1/1 matrix ‘loud cut’ copies of Rubber Soul were ‘withdrawn’ from the UK market, due to concerns with the overall sound mix, EMI began to ‘experiment’ with the 4/1 and 1/4 matrix. After a very brief period of experimentation, EMI stopped issuing the ‘1’ matrix and the 4/4 matrix became the standard mono matrix for Rubber Soul. So these ‘semi loud’ mono matrices are now hard to find, the 4/1 matrix appears every so often, but the 1/4 matrix is harder to find,

4. on side two of the record label, there is some ‘unidentified’, official looking ‘stamped’ text in a blueish colour, in upper case letters !. It is unclear what this text says and what its origins are !,

5. the sleeve is more unusual as it is made by the printing company of ‘E J Day’, as most of these sleeves were made by the printers, ‘Garrod and Lofthouse’. The sleeves front photo is unusual as it appears to have a more blue-ish ‘hue’ to it, rather than the usual darker green colour !.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent+ condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. The two opening edges of the sleeve have remained clean and sharp. The spine is in near excellent condition and it has remained clean, white and fresh and all the text is clear to read. The rear of the sleeve features the tri flipback design. The rear of the sleeve has remained clean for its age. There are NO tears, splits, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent+ condition and is the original ‘Use Emitex’ sleeve. The two opening edges are excellent and unworn. There are NO tears, stickers or sticker residue. There is a slight split to one of the side edges and to one side, to the top, left there is a name and the albums title and artist written in blue pen.

THE RECORD: side one is in near excellent condition, side two is in excellent+ condition. It has remained very dark and glossy.

The matrix are : XEX 579 - 1 and XEX 580 – 4,

The mother / stampers are: ‘ 2 G G R ’ and ‘ 5 R R O ’.

THE AUDIO: is excellent, it plays with relatively quiet grooves, although I did hear some ‘pops’ and some light ‘ticks’ here and there. It plays with an excellent loud, clear, full period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: side one is in excellent condition, side two is in very good+ condition. The letters ‘KT’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing, (apart from the ‘text’ mentioned above), stickers or sticker residue.

BEFORE POSTING, THE RECORD IS REMOVED FROM THE RECORDS ORIGINAL INNER AND OUTER SLEEVES, THE RECORD IS THEN PUT INTO A SECOND PAPER INNER SLEEVE TO MINIMISE ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE IN TRANSIT. THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
