Thanks for looking at this listing. For the purposes of my sales descriptions, and to avoid negative feedback, consider all discs to be very good+/-. Some will play/sound better than this. None will be mint.

Discs will be free from significant warps, and will sit flat on the turntable unless stated. Labels will be free from graffiti/stickers/sticker residue unless stated.

Records have been play tested and will be free from jumps/sticks unless otherwise stated. Records have been cleaned whilst playing with a brush arm, but will usually benefit from further cleaning.

Up for grabs today is the fabulous Sgt Pepper lp, in its 50th Anniversary year! This is a rare Fourth Proof sleeve. Only the second I have come across in four years of serious collecting.

The LP has many marks but plays with a good strong solid sound. I noticed a few clicks on casual listening, but nothing too intrusive. The labels are clean. Whilst way from mint, nevertheless, a very respectable copy of this fine lp. Sounds better than pics might suggest.

The sleeve has seen better days. However, it is still in very good condition for its age. The corners are showing some wear, and there is a small tear in the seam on the bottom right corner(see pics). The spine has also suffered, but the title is not beyond reading(see pics). The seams are otherwise intact. The fourth proof retained in my own collection is little better than this. I have cleaned both sleeve and lp, removing significant marks with good results. See further(borrowed) notes below for significance of Fourth proof sleeve. The original cut-outs insert is included, but the "flame inner bag" is absent. This copy was purchased without a Flame bag and I do not have enough for my own collection to part with one for this listing.

I sell to fund my own passion for Beatles records and thus these will not be top copies, usually sold on as upgrades have been found. The will rarely come with original sleeves.

PMC 7027 – original first issue 1967 UK black and yellow Parlophone labels.

A UK first issue album from 1967 in original condition, featuring:

1. this unique variant of this album features what was a pre production sleeve. The first three ‘Proof’ sleeves never saw the light of day, but these ‘Fourth Proof’ sleeves were passed around at EMI for final agreement. Never meant to be released, but a small number of these sleeves did find their way into the shops. As these were ‘Proof’ sleeves they should NEVER have left the printers.

There are a number of unique features to these ‘Proof’ sleeves when compared to the final sleeves that went onto official production:

a. the printed text of, ‘Fourth Proof’ and ‘A R D 13217’, printed upside down, found on the top right ‘flip back’ on the inner gate fold of the sleeve. The story behind this was that the ‘old’ style of ‘visual’ flip backs were on the way out and the sleeve for the latest Beatles LP, ‘Sgt Pepper’ was to feature the new ‘hidden inner’ flip back design, (but this never happened), so it was thought that the above text would NOT be seen. Apparently the ‘A R’ stands for the designers initials and the ‘D 13217’ is the internal catalogue number for the printers of the sleeve, ‘Garrod and Lofthouse’,

b. the rear of the sleeve features the text ‘Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd Patents Pending’, it is only the ‘Fourth Proof’ sleeves and a very small number of very early Pepper mono ‘flip back’ sleeves that have the text, ‘Patents Pending’. By the time of the official UK launch of Sgt Pepper in June 1967, Garrod & Lofthouse had got the ‘Patents’ confirmed and the text ‘Patents Pending’ was removed from the rear of the sleeve,

c. the colour of Georges jacket appears to be more of a pink colour, instead of red, as on the regular sleeves,

d. the colour of Johns jacket appears to be more of a yellow colour, instead of green, as on the regular sleeves,
