BEATLES UK – Sgt Pepper LP, 1st UK issue, original Mono, Wide Spine sleeve.
PMC 7027 – original black and yellow Parlophone labels.
A very first UK Mono wide spine issue in original condition, featuring:
A first UK issue Mono flipback sleeve with a ‘9mm wide spine’, measured at its widest point. It is now believed that these flipback ‘wide spine’ Pepper sleeves were the very first to be printed when the LP was first released in the UK back in June 1967. Due to packing storage problems the wide spine sleeves were discontinued in favour of the more familiar, ‘thinner’ spine flipback Pepper sleeves.
This particular sleeve is one of the best condition wide spine sleeves I have seen for a long time as it is relatively free of creases. The condition of the rear of the sleeve is in near perfect condition.
CONDITION:
THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent++ condition, the sleeve is fully laminated. The four opening edges excellent, clear and sharp. The original wide spine is in excellent+ condition and all the text on the spine is clear to read. The spines width measures 9mm at its widest point. The original exposed two top flipbacks can be seen when the sleeve is opened. There are NO splits, tears, stains, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue. There is some ‘scuffing’ present to the bottom of the spine.
THE INSERT: the original DARK green cardboard ‘cut-out’ is present and is in MINT condition and looks as if its never been taken out of the sleeve. Theres NO tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue.
THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original red and white ‘wavy’ pattern sleeve. An excellent crease free sleeve. There are NO tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue. There is a split to the bottom edge and some light age related marks on the sleeve.
THE VINYL: is in excellent+ condition. The vinyl is made of the period ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl, it has remained very clean, dark and glossy and doesn’t look as if it’s seen much play.
The matrix are: XEX 637 - 1 and XEX 638 - 1,
The mother / stampers are: ‘3 M H’ and ‘2 H’.
THE AUDIO: is near excellent, it plays with some crackle, light ‘ticks’ and some ‘pops’ to be heard here and there. I feel the audio would be improved if the record was given a professional clean, as the condition of the playing surfaces are so clean. The record lays flat on the turntable.
THE LABELS: are in excellent++ condition. Again there seems to be little signs of play to the record. The letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
