BEATLES UK – Sgt Pepper LP, 1st UK press original Mono, Wide Spine sleeve.

PMC 7027 – original black and yellow Parlophone labels.

A very first UK Mono wide spine pressing in original condition, featuring:

A first UK press Mono flipback sleeve with a ‘8mm wide spine’, measured at its widest point. It is now believed that these flipback ‘wide spine’ Pepper sleeves were the very first to be printed when the LP was first released in the UK back in June 1967. Due to packing storage problems the wide spine sleeves were discontinued in favour of the more familiar, ‘thinner’ spine flipback Pepper sleeves.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent condition, the sleeve is fully laminated. The original wide spine is in excellent condition and all the text on the spine is clear to read. The spines width measures 8mm at its widest point. The original exposed two top flipbacks can be seen when the sleeve is opened. There are NO splits, tears, stains, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

THE INSERT: the original DARK green cardboard ‘cut-out’ is present and is in excellent condition, with NO tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue. To the front bottom corner there is a small crease.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original red and white ‘wavy’ pattern sleeve. An excellent clean, white, fresh sleeve for its age. There are NO tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue. There is a split to the bottom edge and some light age related marks on the sleeve.

THE VINYL: is in near excellent condition. The vinyl is made of the period ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl, it has remained very clean, dark and glossy.

The matrix are:    XEX  637 - 1      and        XEX  638 - 1,

The mother / stampers are:    ‘ 4   A L ’   and  very early:  ‘ 1   P ’.

THE AUDIO: is near excellent, it plays with some light crackle here and there, but as the condition of the playing surfaces are so clean I feel that with a professional clean, the audio would be near perfect. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: are in near excellent condition. The letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

TO GRADE THE CONDITION OF THE RECORD I AM USING THE OFFICIAL GRADING SYSTEM FROM THE ‘RECORD COLLECTOR’ MAGAZINE.

PACKING  -  ALL RECORDS ARE POSTED WITH MULTI LAYERED CARD STIFFENERS FOR PROTECTION.BEFORE POSTING, THE RECORD IS REMOVED FROM THE RECORDS ORIGINAL INNER AND OUTER SLEEVES, THE RECORD IS THEN PUT INTO A SECOND PAPER INNER SLEEVE TO MINIMISE ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE IN TRANSIT. THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
