BEATLES UK, Sgt Pepper, early edited / non edited factory sleeve, UK 1967 mono LP.

PMC 7027, original first issue UK 1967 mono black and yellow Parlophone record labels.

A very unusual 'pre production' sleeve featuring a 'factory edit' to the 'Patent Pending' text and a 'non edited' detail that appears around Georges neck.

A UK issue in original condition, featuring:

1. this very unusual 'pre production' sleeve must have been printed and in circulation at EMI soon after the 'Sgt Pepper' mono '4th Proof' sleeves were printed. The Beatles wanted 'Sgt Pepper' to be released on the 1st June 1967 but the 'Patents' on the sleeve had not been approved. So there was a great rush to try and get the sleeve finally agreed and out into the shops. It is known that EMI did not like to waste any of their sleeves that they had printed so although it was not intentional at the time this 'edited / non edited', 'pre production' sleeve ended up being used and was put out into the shops,

2. this very unusual 'pre production sleeve' features:

a. the original factory printed, 'Patents Pending' text, see photo, printed on the card sleeve, on the rear, lower right hand side has been 'edited out !', this 'edit' can be seen as a slightly darker 'ink' was used, this 'factory edit' appears under the laminate,

b. 'unedited' art work to the area around Georges neck, see the comparison photo, the image on the left is the 'un edited' sleeve, the image on the right is a regular 'edited' sleeve. This area of Georges neck was 'edited' to remove the 'patchy, grainy, unevenness' of the image. On the final agreed sleeves, this area appears 'darker' and the 'patchy, grainy unevenness' has been removed,

3. it is not known how many of the these 'pre production edited/ non edited', Sgt Pepper mono sleeves were printed, it must have been a very small number,

4. on side one of the record label there is an 'additional dot' printed within the text, 'Sold in U.K.' etc, as it reads, 'Sold in .U.K.', etc,

5. comes with its original earliest, 'dark green' card 'cut out' sheet insert,

6. comes with its original red and white 'wavy' pattern inner sleeve.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent+ condition, the sleeve is fully laminated. The quality laminate surface has remained super clean and glossy. The spine is in excellent+ condition, an excellent super clean / strong spine, the spine has remained clean white and straight and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. The four opening edges of the sleeve have remained clean and sharp. When the ‘gate fold’ sleeve is opened it is super clean and glossy and the original two top, ‘flip backs’, ie 'fold over' edges can be seen. There are NO tears, splits, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.

THE CARD INSERT: is in excellent++ condition and is the original earliest, 'dark green' insert. The rear of the 'insert' has remained very clean. There are NO tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the 'insert'.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original ‘wavy’ pattern red and white inner sleeve. Theres NO pen writing, splits, tears, stickers or sticker residue on the inner sleeve. There is some signs of 'ageing' to each side of the inner sleeve.

THE RECORD: side one, I can see two 'light' single marks, so I will grade side one as being in near excellent condition, without these two marks side one would be graded as being in excellent++ condition. Note - the condition of the playing surface has been graded under normal 'daylight' conditions. Side two, I can see one small, 5mm mark, so I will grade side two as being in excellent+ condition, without this mark, side two would be graded as being in near MINT condition, as it is difficult to see any other 'marks' on side two. Note - the condition of the playing surface has been graded under normal 'daylight' conditions. The record is made from the period 1960s, quality ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl. The record has remained very dark and glossy.

The records matrix is: XEX 637 - 1 and XEX 638 - 1,

The mother / stampers are: ‘4 PG’ and ‘4 OA’,

THE AUDIO: each side of the record plays excellent, each side plays with some light 'crackle'. The record plays with a full loud, powerful period 'mono' sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE RECORD LABELS: each of the record labels are in excellent+ condition. Each of the record labels have some 'spindle' trails. The letters 'KT' are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. Each of the record labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
