Description
BEATLES UK – ‘Sgt Pepper’ very first UK press original Stereo ‘Wide Spine’ LP.
PCS 7027 – original black and yellow Parlophone labels.
A very first UK Stereo ‘wide spine’ pressing in original condition, featuring:
1. a first UK press Stereo flipback sleeve with a ‘9mm wide spine’, measured at its widest point. It is now believed that these flipback ‘wide spine’ Pepper sleeves were the very first to be printed when the LP was first released back in June 1967. Due to storage problems the wide spine sleeves were discontinued in favour of the more familiar, ‘thinner’ spine flipback Pepper sleeves,
2. the record has very early mother / stampers, being, ‘1 H’ and ‘1 G A’,
3. the record label on side one has an additional ‘dot’ for the text ‘Sold in UK’ etc as it reads, ‘Sold in .U.K.’ !.
CONDITION:
THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in overall very good+ condition, the condition of the sleeve would have been graded higher but there is some signs of ‘nibbling’ to the top and bottom corners of the spine. The sleeve is fully laminated and has an excellent unscuffed glossy finish with little in the way of the usual scuffing. The original wide spine is in overall very good condition, as mentioned the condition of the spine would have been graded higher but for some signs of some ‘nibbling’ to the top and bottom corners of the spine. The spine is completely uncrushed and has virtually no creases to or around it. All the text on the spine is clear to read. The original exposed two top flipbacks can be seen when the sleeve is opened. Inside the gatefold sleeve the sleeve is in excellent condition, very clean and fresh. Theres NO pen writing, splits, stains, stickers or sticker residue.
THE INSERT: the original DARK green cardboard ‘cut-out’ is present and is in excellent condition, with NO tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue.
THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original red and white ‘wavy’ pattern sleeve. The two opening edges are in excellent, unworn condition. An excellent sleeve with the white colour of the sleeve fresh and white, a very well preserved sleeve. There are NO tears, pen writing, stains, tears, stickers or sticker residue. To each of the two sides there are slight splits.
THE VINYL: side one is in near excellent condition, side two is in very good condition. The vinyl is made of the period ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl, it has remained very clean, dark and glossy.
The Matrix are: YEX 637 - 1 and YEX 638 - 1,
The Mother / Stampers are: very early, ‘ 1 H ’ and ‘1 G A’.
THE AUDIO: side one is very good+, it plays with some light crackle. Side two plays very good, it plays with some light crackle and I did hear some ‘ticks’ on the last one minute of play to ‘Lovely Rita’ and through the track ‘Good Morning, Good Morning’, the Reprise and into the first two minutes of ‘A day in the life’. The long fade out exit on the track ‘A day in the life’ plays relatively crackle free. The record lays flat on the turntable.
THE LABELS: side one is in near MINT condition, side two is in excellent+ condition. The letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
TO GRADE THE CONDITION OF THE RECORD I AM USING THE OFFICIAL GRADING SYSTEM FROM THE ‘RECORD COLLECTOR’ MAGAZINE.
