BEATLES UK – Sgt Pepper, wide spine, original 1967 1st UK mono issue album.

PMC 7027 – original black and yellow Parlophone labels.

It is now believed that these 1967 first issue UK mono flip back ‘wide spine’ Pepper sleeves were the very first to be manufactured when the LP was first released in the UK back in June 1967. Due to storage problems the wide spine sleeves were discontinued in favour of the more familiar, ‘thinner’ spine sleeves.

An original 1967 first issue UK mono album with the earliest known mono wide spine, flip back sleeve. The width of the spine is 8mm, measured at its widest point.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in very good++ condition, the condition of the sleeve would have been graded higher but there is some ‘indentations’ to the front laminate, this can only be seen when the sleeve/laminate is held to the light. The sleeve is fully laminated. An original 1967 first UK issue mono issue ‘flip back’, wide spine sleeve. The original wide spine is in excellent++ condition, it is in near perfect condition, it has remained white, straight and clean and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. When the gate fold sleeve is opened it is super glossy and very clean and the original two top ‘flip backs’ can be seen. There are NO stains, pen writing, splits, tears, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. There is a small ‘nick’ to the middle front opening edge.

THE INSERT: is in near MINT condition and is the original DARK green cardboard ‘cut-out’. There are NO tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition and is the original red and white ‘wavy’ pattern sleeve. The two opening edges have remained clean. Theres NO pen writing, tears, stickers or sticker residue. There is a slight split to the bottom edge and some light age related marks to one side, top right corner.

THE RECORD: side one is in excellent+ condition, side two is in excellent condition. The record is made of the period 1960s ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl. It has remained very clean, dark and glossy.

The matrix are: XEX 637 - 1 and XEX 638 - 1,

The mother/stampers are: side one, ‘1 M O’ and side two: ‘ 3 R ’.

THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent+, it plays with relatively quiet grooves. Side two plays excellent, I did hear some ‘ticks’ on the ‘run in’ groove, that lasted for about 10 seconds, the ‘ticks’ do not run into the music, I cannot see any marks on the ‘run off’ groove here, so maybe a professional clean may help resolve this. It plays with relatively quiet grooves. The record plays with a loud, full period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: are in MINT condition, I cannot see any spindle trials on each of the labels. The letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side two. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or any other sticker residue.

THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
