BEATLES UK – With the Beatles, dark and grainy very early E J Day mono sleeve.

PMC 1206 – original 1963 very early UK issue, yellow and black Parlophone labels.

An early UK issue mono album in original condition, featuring:

1. a hard to find sleeve variant featuring a very dark and grainy photo image, made by ‘E J Day’. In fact this is the very darkest image you can get for this sleeve. The image is so dark, the shadow side of the faces are in complete darkness. Efforts were soon made by the printers to use a much lighter and clearer image,

2. on the record label on side two there is the spelling of ‘got a’, but on the rear of the sleeve this spelling is ‘gotta’ for the track ‘You really got a hold on me’.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent++ condition, the front of the sleeve is laminated. This laminate has remained very glossy and relatively ‘scuff’ free. There is just one slight ‘thumb’ crease to the front of the laminate. The sleeve is made by E J Day. The two opening edges have remained very clean and sharp. The spine is in excellent++ condition and has remained clean, straight and white in colour and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. The un laminated rear of the sleeve is in excellent++ condition and has remained an excellent clean, fresh white in colour. The sleeve features the period tri flipback design to the rear. An excellent, well preserved sleeve. There are NO splits, tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent++ condition and is the original period EMI ‘Use Emitex’ sleeve. The sleeve has remained an excellent clean, fresh white for its age. The two opening edges are excellent and have remained clean and unworn. There are NO tears splits, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.

THE RECORD: side one is in excellent+ condition, side two is in near excellent condition. The record is made of the period 1960s ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl. The record has remained very dark and glossy.

The matrix are: XEX 447 – 5N and XEX 448 – 5N,

The mother / stampers are: ‘ 1 H D ’ and ‘ 4 O G ’.

THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent++ with excellent quiet grooves. Side two, I did hear some light ‘ticks’ to the beginning of track one, that lasted for about 30 seconds, the rest of side two plays excellent+ with excellent quiet grooves. An excellent playing copy. The record plays with a loud, clear mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: are in excellent+ condition. There are the letters ‘KT’ embossed around the spindle hole on side two. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
