Description
BEATLES UK – ‘SGT PEPPER’ very first press original Mono ‘Wide Spine’ LP with an ‘EMI’ stamped inner sleeve.
PMC 7027 – original black and yellow Parlophone labels.
A very first UK Mono wide spine pressing in original condition, featuring:
1 a very first press Mono flipback sleeve with a ‘9mm wide spine’, measured at its widest point. It is now believed that these flipback ‘wide spine’ Pepper sleeves were the very first to be printed when the LP was first released back in June 1967. Due to storage problems the wide spine sleeves were discontinued in favour of the more familiar, ‘thinner’ spine flipback Pepper sleeves.
2. the original inner sleeve is very unusual, as it has an original ‘EMI’ logo stamped in blue ink on one side, see photo. I have not seen this before, maybe this was a ‘proof’ sleeve or an early prototype copy !.
CONDITION:
THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent+ condition, the sleeve is fully laminated. This is one of the best Pepper Mono flipback wide spine sleeves I have seen, as it has a near perfect laminate, very glossy and very little in the way of the usual scuffing etc. The original exposed two top flipbacks can be seen when the sleeve is opened. The original wide spine is in excellent condition and all the text on the spine is clear to read. Theres NO pen writing, splits, tears, stains, stickers or sticker residue.
THE INSERT: the original DARK green cardboard ‘cut-out’ is present and is in excellent condition, with NO tears, pen writing, stains, creases, stickers or sticker residue.
THE INNER SLEEVE: is in very good++ condition and is the original red and white ‘wavy’ pattern sleeve. As mentioned above the sleeve has what appears to be an original ‘EMI’ logo stamped on to it !. There are NO tears, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue. There is a split to the bottom edge and some light age related marks.
THE VINYL: is in excellent condition, the vinyl is made of the period ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl, it has remained very clean, dark and glossy.
The Matrix are: XEX 637 - 1 and XEX 638 - 1,
The Mother / Stampers are: ‘2 A P’ and ‘2 D G’.
THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent+, it plays with very little crackle. Side two plays excellent with some light crackle and I did hear the odd light ‘tick’ here and there on the quieter parts of the music, the long quiet fade out plays relatively crackle free to the track ‘A day in the Life’, an excellent playing copy, with little to spoil the listening pleasure. The record lays flat on the turntable, and plays excellent with NO jumps or skips.
THE LABELS: are in excellent+ condition, the letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
