RARE Ist PRESS in MONO   -   Matrix Nos. 709-1  710-1  711-1  712-1

(Mono is the only way to listen to this iconic album because it is different from the Stereo version in many ways)

This LOW LOW sleeve number 0009393  is such a rarity and makes this a UNIQUE opportunity.

Very rarely do these sequentially numbered sleeves come up for sale with a three zero prefix number - AN AWESOME OPPORTUNITY to own a most sought after Beatles collectable.

Lets consider what we have here!

Millions of this LP set were sold in the UK and many more millions were sold worldwide, but here we have an example which is within the first few percent of the press run. SO RARE is this opportunity!! This album comes as an (almost) complete package and overall it is in at least Very Good condition if the RC quality benchmarks are adopted. But in some case the component parts are better than that.

Each aspect of this desirable 60s Beatles album is described separately below and I have been as honest as I can possibly be. If the winning bidder has cause to disagree, then I ask that communication is entered into prior to negative feedback being left (which I do not expect and would want to avoid – I really do try to look after my 100% feedback rating, so you may buy with confidence). A full refund is on offer if the product is returned in the same condition it left me. DISPATCH will be by signed for, insured courier to reflect the potential sale price. I REALLY DO PREFER THAT THIS STAYS IN THE UK – it’s a part of our musical heritage and should stay that way!

THE VINYLS

BOTH VINYLS ARE CORRECT, in MONO and they are a matched pair with each having the – 1 suffix after the matrix number etched into the dead wax. This is what confirms them as FIRST PRESSINGS.

All four centre labels are in good, clean condition and feature the really DARK green apple on sides 1 and 3.

Audio – firstly I should say that I know for certain that this album has not been played for over twenty years before I test played it prior to listing. 

Each vinyl lies flat without warps, without chipped edges or structural damage of any kind.

VISUALLY the surfaces are clean and shiny BUT PLEASE NOTE = there are some flaws.

1.       There is a name written lightly in biro on the centre labels sides 2 and 4 (see pic).

2.       There are surface marks on all 4 playing surfaces but probably no worse than is usual on an LP set that was bought to be played. As described above, the surface marks are not deep nor extensive but vary in their appearance from whispery to light scratches – some very short, some longer but not deeper (but see reference below – SIDE 4 description).

But the audio presentation helps to explain the surface marks further. 

AUDIO - I PLAYED ALL FOUR SIDES WHILE PREPARING THE LISTING

THESE VINYLS offer extremely good audio.....

SIDE 1 – A clean entry with minimal surface noise followed by all tracks playing throughout without hesitation, no pops, no clicks or jumps. There is minimal surface noise to my ear but a better audio system may detect more than I did on my Pioneer deck. In between tracks is where surface noise is normally most obvious but even that is minimal on this vinyl set. Audio – I rated it as at least VG

SIDE 2 – Much the same as Side 1 with no worthwhile comments to make – all clean and continuous without annoyance of any kind. I also rate the audio as at least VG.

SIDE 3 – Again, the whole of side three is a joy to play. It has very, very light surface noise and plays cleanly without interruption. Audio on this side as rated perhaps better than VG.

SIDE 4 – Similar to all the other sides. EXCEPT there is a SMALL JUMP in the early rev’ of the Honey Pie track. It is annoying that it spoils what otherwise is a great listening experience but can be put down to a scratch on the vinyl at that position.

Top opening OUTER SLEEVE - Numbered 0009393 – yes, it is THAT early!

This 1st press Garrod and Lofthouse TOP OPENING sleeve is intact without side splits, without tears and no writing. It has slightly yellowed with age – as most of these sleeves seem to have done. The laminate is slightly cracked along the spine but that is intact without splits or excessive wear. The text on the spine is still readable. Each of the sleeve corners has minimal wear so all corners are almost square. The surface of the sleeve carries some handling marks and minimal wear on both inside and out including light creases below the laminate and some storage / handling impressions in the glossy surface.

I would rate this sleeve as at least VG – I am tempted to add a + sign though.

THE INNER SLEEVES

The vinyls come in the original die-cut centre BLACK inner sleeves with no splits on the sides and no writing. There is however wear around the edges of one of the die-cut centres but it's better than typical for 45 year old paper sleeve. The second inner sleeve is Excellent, with no wear at all.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

These pics are in FABULOUS condition. They have remained in the album sleeve so have never been hung on a wall or had cellotape attached etc. They are the original card quality photo’s not later reprints.

SPACERS

Most of these album sets have lost their spacers but this includes one of the original spacers - not sure how many there should have been!

THE POSTER

This looks like it has not been opened very often. The edges are clean, unworn, untorn and there is no evidence whatsoever that this has ever been anywhere but in the sleeve.

No splits, no tears, no writing no cellotape marks, no blu-tack marks etc. It is in great condition.

So in summary, what we have here is a FIRST PRESSING, ULTRA LOW NUMBERED SLEEVE, CLEAN VINYLS, 4 PHOTOS, 1 X SPACER, AMAZING POSTER AND BLACK INNER SLEEVES - an original and almost complete example of the most sought after Beatles production ever.

Miss this Ultra LOW numbered example and you may regret it!
