Description

BEATLES White Album 1968 UK Top Loading 1G 1st Press No Emi Low Number 0057474.
Interesting Copy - There is 'No Emi' on Sides 1, 2 & 3. Side 4 is 'With Emi'.
The Matrix & Mothers are as follows; Side 1 - XEX 709 1 (5 HL) Side 2 - XEX 710 1 (3 HH) Side 3 - XEX 711 1 (1 G) Side 4 - XEX 711 2 (1 G)
What's unusual here is that Side 4 has a '2' Matrix & a '1 G' Mother.
Although Side 4 has a 'With Emi' Label, this is not unusual as I believe the labels were changed almost immediately.
But I find having a Side 3 '1 G' & a Side 4 '1 G' Very Unusual
My own brief investigations suggest that the records were on a sort of conveyor, so one side would be pressed with the mother, then it would trundle round the conveyor, with Side 2 being pressed, only slightly later, but with the resulting mothers rarely matching either side of the record.
I have also read the the XEX 7// 2, could appear on any side of any issue.
But I wonder, was side 3 & 4 pressed, at the same time, or was side 4 pressed slightly later with the '2' Matrix, coincidentally acquiring the '1 G' Matrix?
In any event this is a very early 'No Emi' '1 G' Issue (1 G is the earliest Mother).
Low Number Sleeve No.0057474 - Correct Mono Sleeve with no 'Stereo' on Reverse.
Sleeve is Very Good with slight marks to the laminate on the top right corner as shown. It Appears the previous owner put sellotape on the spine as a preventative measure that was never required, the sellotape has since come off, but it has left a residue that can be seen, but is hardly noticeable & may be removed with light cleaning. This is possibly a Wide Spine issue.
The inserts are fair only - they have old sellotape on them which can be seen in the pictures.
The Black Inners are Very Good.
What let's This record down is the condition of the Vinyl it is quite heavily marked & I can grade No Higher than Good & No worse than Fair.
I have playtested the album though & playback is Very Good - There is a slight imperfection on 'Dear Prudence', but otherwise it plays with no skips or jumps.
Playback is Generally Clear & Free from Hiss or Crackle, although there is the odd deviance, as you would expect.
This is a Playable Album & despite the marked vinyl, remains a Good Everyday Player.
In summary this is Very Early Copy in Fair to Good Condition which Nonetheless Plays Well & Remains a Good Everyday Player.
Please do not expect a mint copy, expect a playable album.
I have started the bidding low, at a price the record is well worth. But if you are bidding, please feel free to bid more.
