The Beatles
Please Please Me
Up for auction is today is the first Beatles LP,"Please Please Me" on Parlophone PMC 1202 a MONO copy with "Northern Songs Ltd" labels. A typing error by George Martin back on March 8th 1963 had 4 songs on his running order sheet being mistakenly published by the "Dick James Co".It's this list that went to the printers and thus the first "incorrect" labels were used.
The error was discovered and new labels were made giving correct credit to "Northern Songs Ltd",there were fewer of these made,in fact only about 900!! And what a great sample we have here, with the earliest cover, with the Angus McBean credit starting right below the "s"...
THE COVER: beautiful ,no writing ,tape,or tears, the front is about as good as it gets, totally shiny with no creases, the spine is perfect, the bottom edge below the blue letters has a few "very slight" lines in the laminate,(see photo),in the bottom corner by the photo credit there is some very minor chipping, and a tiny paper seperation, about 1/4 inch. The upper corner by the red Parlophone has a very tiny bump. The back cover is super also, very clean flip back edges, totally intact. It is very clean but does have scattered age spots, most are very light, over all a very well preserved cover..
THE RECORD: has most all the origional shine, the labels are almost perfect,no spindle marks or writing, there are no scuffs in the vinyl and no warps,it has a just a few hairline scratches, with 2 slightly biggers ones on each side, but nothing deep or serious. It plays very well, with no skips, there are 2 or 3 minor pops on each side and a few occasional background ticks during play. The vocals during the middle to end part on"Twist and Shout" do get a little distorted as well ,but nothing on this record keeps this from being an enjoyable record, that has not been abused...
SIDE ONE: xex 421-1n / 2 GH
SIDE TWO: xex 422-1n / 1 M
It also has the origional "Use Emitex" record sleeve,"patents applied for, made in England"
This is a great item, one of the better ones your likely to see, look at the photos and judge for yourself!!
Thanks,Patrick
