Description
Beautiful and Massively Rare Original 1969 U.K. Stereo (Much Rarer Than Mono!) 1st Pressing (A1//B1//A1//B2 Matrix!!!!) Double Album 'Odessa' by The Bee Gees!!! Earliest Possible Polydor 1st Pressing with w/ 1st Press Textured Polydor Labels & 1st Press E. J. Day Scarlet Velvet 'Stereo' Gatefold Sleeve!!! A Very Rare Stereo 1st Press Album!!!
You are bidding on the mega rare 1969 U.K. Stereo 1st pressing of the classic Odessa by The Bee Gees!!! What makes this record so special however is that it is the original 1969 UK Stereo 1st pressing. To begin with, finding this on the UK 1st press Textured Polydor labels is simply impossible. Most you will see will be either later RSO pressings of West German reissues. However, there is something that marks this beautiful record as even rarer - virtually all UK 1st pressings of Odessa you will see from 1969 will be Mono. This was by far the dominant format for this LP in 1969. In fact, this is one of only a handful of 1969 Steree pressings that were ever made before the Matrix was changed to the later A//2 (and so on) matrix and the labels became shiny and no longer textured (as they were for virtually all Mono 1st pressings). This is record is so rare as a stereo 1st pressing that they actually changed from the textured to shiny Polydor labels in the middle of the pressing. So all true 1st press Stereo copies will have a textured label for the 1st disc and a shiny label for the second, as is the case here. All later Stereo pressings (and every other Mono 1st pressing I have ever seen) have 2 shiny labels. And just look at these matrix endings - A1//B1//A1//B2!!! You will not see an earlier Matrix for the stereo pressing of this record. What's More it comes complete with its original 'Stereo' E. J. Day red velvet gatefold sleeve!!! Complete with with both original 1st press poly-lined, windowed inner sleeves!!! Finding a complete UK Stereo 1st press copy of this record today is very, very difficult; finding it with **Near Mint** discs however, is impossible - good luck!!!
Cat No:
583 049/050
Dead Wax info:
Side 1 - 583049- A//1
Side 2 - 583049-1 B//1
Side 3 - 583050-1 A//1
Side 4 - 583050-1 B//2
As you'd expect, the cool 1st press red Polydor labels are in superb condition!!! There are NO Scribbles. NO lifting or Bubbling and NO unwanted writing of any kind to the centre labels - there are virtually NO spindle lines present - further evidence that this record has only been played once or twice at most ever!!! The gramophone rims containing the all important 1st press matrix are also Mint-.
Due to the commercial appeal of the Bee Gees, most of these 1st pressings were played to death in the late 1960's & 70's and on the rare occasions they turn up today it is usually full of scratches and gouges with a dull sheen and totally worn out. This one is NOT and the record stills retains a beautiful deep glass-like sheen. Both discs are in superb in condition with NO scratches, NO groove-wear and NO warping! They both easily grade as a straight **Near Mint** condition!!! Side A of the second disc just has the faintest non-sounding hairline partway across Track 1 and that's it! Believe me these 2 quality pressed thick & chunky heavyweight discs are in absolutely stunning condition! Please remember that our records are not over-graded at all!
As mentioned above, this comes complete with its very rare E. J. Day velvet textured 'Stereo' sleeve, the textured finish is a delight to look at. It retains its full velvet sheen with not wear/rubbing etc. to the flat surfaces. There is some edge and corner wear and just the faintest hint of ring wear at the back. There is also some feathering of the opening edge - very common on these sleeves, but better than you will find on most others). There are NO Rips/Tears/Nicks, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! It retains all of its full deep scarlet colouration, with NONE of the common colour fade associated with this sleeve (they often turn a washed out pink colour)!!! The sleeve is is nice and stiff and has not gone floppy (again, a very common fault with this sleeve). It has a good thick strong spine and folds out perfectly to reveal a stunning unblemished un-laminated inner gatefold!!! There are 2 tiny patches of wear on the spine, but they are very very small. This sleeve easily grades as Very Good+!!! Like all my records it is in no way over-graded!!! Of course these discs come complete with their original poly-lined windowed inner sleeves!!! They have NO seam-splitting and NO scribbles/stains/ writing etc.!!! Importantly, the inner poly lining in both is still FIRMLY attached!!! To recap: This is the very first pressing in Stereo format (much rarer as a 1st pressing than Mono), from way back in 1969!!! Stereo 1st pressings of this album hardly ever show up today and when they do it is very rarely in this condition!!! An absolutely essential (and very rare) pressing for any Psych/ Classic Pop fan to to own!!! Don't miss this one!!!

Postage ... Hazey Jane has absolutely NO hidden surcharges; the price you win is the price you pay, just add the relevant postage, it's as simple as that! We always combine postage so if you win more than 1 auction you save money on postage costs! We will only ship to non-UK countries via Airmail - we do not use surface mail, it is way too slow and thus increases the risk of records being damaged during transit.
A little note about insurance - Please read carefully... If the value of your record(s) is over £30, your invoice will include an insured option. Being the responsible adults you are, it is entirely up to you to take this up - we strongly advise you to do this but will not hassle you about it. You either add the required insurance or you don't. If you do add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will get a refund. If you don't add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will not get a refund. Can we be any clearer? I think not.

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards. If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...
Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.
We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
