Description
This is a very rare record indeed! Whilst it sounds great on playback it is a bit shabby so I'll take you through it's shortcomings. The 1st Movement sounds fantastic throughout save for some very occasional static popping & 1 very light tick at 7.50. The 2nd movement plays marvellously throughout with a very high signal to noise ratio, as good as any other record I've heard in the SXL series. Onto the 3rd movement, which begins Side 2. There are 8 very light ticks between 0.30 & 0.40 & some occasional static popping at a few points. The 4th movement is excellent, with again, just some occasional scattered static popping. The record is padded out with the inclusion of the 'Fidelio Overture'. My guess is that a previous owner liked this piece a lot & played it on an indifferent stylus. The difference can be heard straight away with a marked increase in surface noise from the outset & 4 light ticks at 2.45. After the ticks the problems start in earnest. The amount of surface noise make this record unlistenable from this point onwards. The groove has clearly been damaged. So if you want a fantastic sounding recording of a great performance of this Symphonic work this record is for you. However it will be without the added bonus of the "Fidelio Overture" for the reasons I have given. Visually the vinyl looks surprisingly good (given the somewhat shabby state of the sleeve) with only minor scuffing visible under strong light. The front cover shows signs of creasing & a red inky mark under the right hand Decca logo. The reverse is slightly grubby with pronounced signs of ring wear. There is another red inky mark in the top left hand corner & biro writing to the right. Also there is a piece of the bottom flipback missing. All these blemishes can clearly be seen on the photos. For all its faults this is still a great record & as good a performance of Beethoven's 7th as I've heard. It sounds fantastic! Includes original inner sleeve. I shall be posting more records every Thursday for the coming weeks & I have many sought after titles so PLEASE CHECK MY OTHER ITEMS & SAVE ME TO YOUR LIST OF SELLERS!! All records are VACUUM CLEANED & placed in a brand new inner sleeve before posting. They are all listened to once in their entirety played on a new Ortofon stylus. All records are removed from sleeves before posting & placed in a polythene sleeve. Records come in heavy duty custom mailers with 2 stiffeners.
