Ludwig van Beethoven remains one of the most admired composers in the history of Western music; his works rank amongst the most performed of the classical music repertoire and span the transition from the Classical period to the Romantic era in classical music. Herbert von Karajan was an Austrian and principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic for 34 years. By one estimate, he was the top-selling classical music recording artist of all time, having sold an estimated 200 million records.  The Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92, is a symphony in four movements composed by Ludwig van Beethoven between 1811 and 1812, while improving his health in the Bohemian spa town of Teplitz. The work is dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries. At its premiere at the University in Vienna on 8 December 1813, Beethoven remarked that it was one of his best works. The second movement, "Allegretto", was so popular that audiences demanded an encore.  Here, Von Karajan conducts the Berlin Philharmoniker.
