BEGGARS BANQUET – ROLLING STONES –1968 MONO ORIGINAL
This is the rare original 1968 red label unboxed Decca ffrr Mono LP (no LK4955). The numbers on the run out tracks are XARL 8476 – 4A and XARL 8477 – 2A
I have owned and looked after this classic record from new.
The gatefold cover is in good condition with only light signs of wear, mostly around the edges. The spine is a little worn, but still readable. The inside of the gatefold (the picture of the beggars banquet) is in excellent condition.
The original inner sleeve is in reasonable condition although it has a split on one edge and is slightly stained, as if one edge of it got wet at some time. I have no recollection of this happening but there is no corresponding mark on the gatefold cover, so they must have been apart when it happened.
The record has been well played but is in good condition. There are some light surface marks, but they do not affect play i.e. no skips, jumps etc. There is some minor background noise in places.
An interesting fact I recently discovered about this album is that the label and cover both say “written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richard”, but in fact, ”Prodigal Son” was discovered to have been a Reverend Wilkins’ musical work based on biblical lore. Later U.S. editions of the album were changed to reflect this, but I don’t know if this happened in the UK as well.
