Beggars Opera were a progressive rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in Glasgow in 1969 by guitarist Ricky Gardiner. The line-up consisted of Ricky Gardiner (guitar/vocals) (born Richard Gardner, in 1948, Edinburgh, Lothian, Scotland), Alan Park (keyboards) (born 10 May 1951, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland), Martin Griffiths (vocals), Marshall Erskine (bass/flute) and Raymond Wilson (drums).
In 1970, after signing to Vertigo Records, the band recorded their first album Act One, and a single "Sarabande", which charted record in several European countries. The following year, for their second album, Waters of Change, the band were joined by Gordon Sellar (bass) (born 13 June 1947, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland). The single "Time Machine" from that album was successful in Germany, where the band toured extensively.
Erskine left the band before they recorded their third album, Pathfinder (1972), which included a cover version of Richard Harris hit " MacArthur Park". Several other personnel changes ensued, with Pete Scott replacing Martin Griffiths in 1972, and Linnie Paterson replacing Pete Scott in 1973. By 1973's final album, Get Your Dog Off Me, Beggars Opera were reduced to a trio of Gardiner, Park and Sellar.[ It barely sold any copies in any country when first issued. Nowadays it is an album that is in high regard for any music lover who likes their folk a bit more experimental and daring with many progressive elements. The music here presented is absolutely top notch and a great joy to listen to.
The album itself is in fantastic well preserved condition having barely seen any play in its lifetime, safely locked away after recording onto a reel to reel tape, in a fantastic prog and folk collection for over 40 years.
Ricky Gardiner mis-spelled Ricky Gardener on the jacket. Main differences to later releases are the gatefold cover and no credits on back.
Exactly the same as the retail version except different labels.

I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! There are not any jumps, pops or skips. Very remarkable for this 1970 ultra heavy vinyl!!! This copy has barely been played. The only absolutely PRISTINE copy I have ever come across of this ultra rare, hard to get album!! I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!! A beautiful CLASSIC with supreme songcraft, a joy to listen to!!!!
ELUSIVE CLASSIC PROG MONSTER!!!! VINYL IN A UNIQUE EX++/NM CONDITION!!!
!!!!AN IMPOSSIBLE FIND!!!GORGEOUS EX++/NM!!! Only a few hundred of the LP were ever sold!!! This is SOOOOOOOOOOO very rare!!!!!
****ELUSIVE PROGMONSTER!!!****PERPLEXING SONGCRAFT!!!
!!!!A VERY HARD FIND!!! Most have been bought up by collectors!! This is hardly offered these days as an original second press, the first press being more common!!
Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. NO clicks or crackle, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .The audio is impeccable. Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.
Vinyl: EX++ to NM . A sensational find and barely played!!! I have played this in FULL twice over> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation. All I could find is one wispy ultra short hairline on side 2, last track. It does not sound at all and is non feelable ultra shallow. NO scuffs, simply pristine!! THE LABELS HAVE NOT EVEN ANY SPINDLE TRACES. Fantastic songcraft!! A personal favourite of mine and I am very glad to be able to report that this is a fine slab of vinyl without any problems at all and as such worthy of inclusion of any great prog collection. This will be an ultimate upgrade version for most collectors. Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one). This is a beautifully clean pressing (and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well). The whole LP sounds absolutely great and plays to a high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong NM for audio without anything untoward, no static or crackle at all - great copy!! Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO ticks.
Gatefold Sleeve: EX++ . Unbelievable to find such a well preserved sleeve. I doubt whether it is possible to improve on this at all!! A beautiful sleeve with perfect edges and spine. NO CREASES!! It lies perfectly flat and opens up a dream. The spine is 100% legible. The opening is still super crisp. This has been stored in a polythene sleeve for decades. There is no writing and no smudging or yellowing. Unbelievably this is now 46 years old!! This is in time warp condition.

This is a unique investment opportunity!!! The next prog album to go completely through the roof. Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.

Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly! PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST, if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one! I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem! This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem. Thanks again!!
This an excellent investment opportunity!!! Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon.
