First album from this well-renowned British progressive act. Classic stuff indeed, but you all know that. This is a nice copy as well...
COVER; the unlaminated gatefold cover is in really nice nick, with just some light wear round the edges and corners. There are a few insignificant creases. Basically NEAR MINT. But we’ll settle for a very conservative VERY GOOD PLUS.
VINYL; the vinyl has a really nice sheen with just a few very light hairlines and some faint wispy marks visible under strong light from some angles. Visually graded as NEAR MINT. It plays with light occasional background crackle, more evident in the mellow parts and in between the some of the tracks. (They all do...) It gets an aural VERY GOOD PLUS-grading.
LABELS; both labels are very clean with just a few spindlemarks visible from some angles. There is still some plastic residue in the centrehole, indicating that this record hardly has been played at all.
EXTRA; comes with VERTIGO-innersleeve, with the numbers “1072” bottom left, in more than decent condition.
I use GOLDMINE GRADING STANDARDS – MINT/NEAR MINT/VERY GOOD PLUS/VERY GOOD/GOOD/POOR. The grading MINT (M) is hardly ever used - and at that umcommon occasion - NOT used improperly. NEAR MINT (NM) means NEAR MINT both visually and audible! VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) is the same as EXCELLENT (EX) in other grading systems. My ambition is to provide an as accurate description as possible and I do not try hide any defects or other flaws on the record and cover. GOLDMINE GRADING STANDARDS
MINT ---- It should appear to be perfect. No scuffs or scratches, blotches or stains, labels or writing, tears or splits. Mint means perfect.
NEAR MINT ---- Otherwise mint but has one or two tiny inconsequential flaws that do not affect play. Covers should be close to perfect with minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident: slight ring-wear, minor denting to a corner, or writing on the cover should all be noted properly.
VERY GOOD PLUS ---- The record has been handled and played infrequently or very carefully. Not too far from perfect. On a disc, there may be light paper scuffs from sliding in and out of a sleeve or the vinyl or some of the original lustre may be lost. A slight scratch that did not affect play would be acceptably VG+ for most collectors.
VERY GOOD ---- Record displays visible signs of handling and playing, such as loss of vinyl lustre, light surface scratches, groove wear and spindle trails. Some audible surface noise, but should not overwhelm the musical experience. Usually a cover is VG when one or two of these problems are evident: ring wear, seam splits, bent corners, loss of gloss, stains, etc.
GOOD ---- Well played with little lustre and significant surface noise. Despite defects, record should still play all the way through without skipping. Several cover flaws will be apparent, but should not obliterate the artwork.
POOR ---- Any record or cover that does not qualify for the above "Good" grading should be seen as Poor. Several cover flaws
