In the early sixties, when Rock ‘n’ Roll was still young and DJ’s were regular guys who could play some fine records in a decent running order it was the live bands that rules a busy Belgian night life.
Belgium with its international mind set always an early adapter – embraced rock music very quickly. The sheer endless stream of new, mainly Anglo-Saxon Rock,
Blues and soul, pouring into Belgium from across the channel, which kick started the Belgium Music Scene.
Where Music used to be harmless family entertainment, it now became the exclusive soundtrack for a generation of youngsters. Their very own music, disliked by the “Grown ups” largely ignored by the regular radio stations, therefore exclusive and super exciting.
Hundreds of bands played each weekend for an audience of dance crazed kids who were in awe of their local Rock ‘n’ Roll heroes.
Due to the lack of professional music business , the do-it-yourself and trial and error approaches ruled! Everybody was learning , improvising and experimenting. In a rush many labels and self declared managers popped up.
Songs were recorded and singles released . Band competitions and the first festivals came into being.
Music clubs opened their doors… and through all of this, the many bands kept playing.
Some bands hardly made it out of their garage , others gained local or even national fame.
Some musicians called t a day when real life cam e calling. Others were in for the long run, some still active even now.
While everything else faded, the music itself is still with us, forever captured on vinyl. The songs featured on this album will make you relieve those exciting times
The coming of age of rock n roll, with all its naivety , enthusiasm, drive, heart, soul and genuine musical talent.
With the Belgian Vaults series, Starman Records wants to pay tribute to Belgium’s musical past: Songs and bands that do not deserve to disappear in the mists of time, but that are bound to appeal time and again to new generations of music fans.
This album is dedicated to all Belgian musicians who were around at the tim when Rock ‘n’ Roll was very young.
