with original Christmas-themed printed insert.
Pencil title by original owner: "Bell Ringers At Christmas (Battle Creek)"
Annotation on back of sleeve indicates original owner had it in hand January 1959.
An extreme rare record that must be considered among the most desireable in the genre, considering that it may well be the earliest record by Robert Hieber, who assumed the presidency of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers in 1959 and would guide it through a period of tremendous growth and elevated quality.
The group had only recently been organized, in April 1957, and acquired a set of 48 bells cast by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London, England, the same foundry that cast Big Ben and the Liberty Bell.
In addition to conducting, Mr Hieber arranged some of the selections, and performs himself on the organ on one track.
This record is not listed in Discogs, does not appear in WorldCat, and has no auction sale documented in Popsike.
A worthy addition to even the most advanced collection of English Handbell Ringing, American Christmas music, and Michigan music history. And, a record not likely to appear again in short order.
Condition: Record has been played but vinyl is quite excellent, not many scratches. Labels are very clean and bright. Outer sleeve is soiled somewhat. Original glassine inner sleeve as shown. Insert is essentially flawless.
