A brilliant copy of this scarce and sought after 1961 US original pressing modern jazz LP on the coveted VERVE label, MG V-8274

The appearance of the vinyl is excellent+! Completely flat with beautiful lacquered sheen and clean, clearly defined grooves throughout. Held at the right angle under a bright light and I could just make out a few very light paper scuffs with a slightly more obvious, small light surface scuff on the first track of side 2...you still need to view under a bright light to notice it though! Nothing below the surface here, just superficial very light and occasional scuffs. This record appears not to have been played many times at all - a real gleamer!

The labels are near perfect. There is just a very faint and small spindle trace adjacent to the centre hole on each label. Otherwise perfect.

The outer sleeve is excellent-.  Nice thick and uncreased cardboard with the iconic front-side paste-on photo retaining it's original colouring - no fading here. There is some occasional and minimal, very light scuffing on the edges which is a little more pronounced on the left side of the top edge but each edge remains firm. The opening sides also remain rigid with no fraying and each corner is still a nicely defined right angle with just minimal rubbing. The reverse side has just the hint of a little age discolouration but all writing is remains perfectly legible and there is no creasing or nasty marks or unwanted doodles. So only minor blemishes and remarkable condition considering this items 56 year old antiquity!

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent+. Truly stunning in fact, with great tone and clarity throughout and no distortion whatsoever, even at higher volume or on the higher end frequencies. No clicks, pops, skips or background interference, just perfect. Just sit back and enjoy five great jazz musicians at the top of their game : Ben Webster (tenor saxophone), Oscar Peterson (piano), Ray brown (bass), Herb Ellis (guitar), and Stan Levey (drums).

Comes with original plastic inner sleeve with no splits or tears and still fully functional. I always supply a new plain white inner as a matter of course.

In summary a superb copy of this scarce and sought after 1961 modern jazz gem, made all the more collectable by virtue of it's wonderful condition and brilliant audio quality.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :

Mint

Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good

Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair 

Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor

Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
