Label does not have “R” symbol under Blue Note logo.

“RVG” is etched in the runout groove on both sides.  The Plastylite (“ear”) symbol is stamped on both sides.

Condition: 

DISC:  NM/VG++.  A very fine playing copy.  Side One is flawless – no marks or scuffs, a beautiful side.  Side Two would grade the same except for one unsightly hairline scuff midway through the second track and into the third – but does not sound except for a few barely perceptible soft tics – not distracting.  I have included a sound clip of the affected portions so you can judge for yourself.  Labels are clean.  This is a very fine playing copy of one of the great Blue Notes – a very enjoyable listen.         

JACKET:   EXCELLENT with flawless front and back panels.  Would grade NEAR MINT except for a minor scrape at the center of the spine.

“Soul Stirrin’ is an invigorating, exciting date from trombonist Bennie Green, showcasing his wide range of skills.  His tone is alternately boisterous and reflective -- the juxtaposition of the wildly swinging "We Wanna Cook" (complete with shouted vocals) and the gentle "That's All" is startling, demonstrating that Green can vary his robust sound according to the occasion.  Green fluid trombone is at the center stage throughout most of Soul Stirrin’, but he also steps aside to shine some light on his extraordinary support group -- saxophonists Gene Ammons and Billy Root, pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Ike Isaacs and drummer Elvin Jones.  Each musician plays with soul and passion, both on the laidback blues and mambos and the rollicking swing numbers.  It's a thoroughly enjoyable record and one that is a good introduction to Green wonderful, friendly style.”
