Bernie Frost, The House b/w What Do You Want To Hear Today?
Often regarded as the great lost Status Quo single. This was recorded in 1974 with the A side produced by Francis Rossi and performed by Bernie Frost, Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt and John Coghlan. Bernie Frost went on to become Rossi's songwriting partner for many years and the unofficial sixth member of Quo through the 1980s. The B-side is also produced by Rossi.Scarce 1974 UK Vertigo Records 7" housed in Vertigo swirl sleeve, 6059 108.
Vinyl in near mint condition. The plastic label areas are still very glossy and show just one or two of the lightest of hairline scuff marks. On the whole appears a little played and carefully handled single.
Vinyl surfaces have a high gloss and are free of marks, save for a couple of tiny and superficial hairline sleeve removal scuffs which I only spotted after studying the surfaces with a magnifying glass.
Playback is superb throughout. Not only are both sides free of crackle, ticks or clicks, but the run ins on both sides are impressively silent. This is a real bonus, as the B side starts very quietly, and is prone to noticeable surface noise on most extant issues.
Sleeve is near mint. However, on closer inspection I'm of the opinion that the sleeve is a later repro. The texture is a little thin for my liking, and the wavy cuts at top entry side show some uneveness when inspected at close quarters. Nonetheless, the print is very bold and clear, and this really sets off the near mint vinyl very well. For the purist, an original Vertigo Swirl sleeve is actually fairly easily obtainable.
