Description

Hot Jazz Classics C-31, a collection of classic Bessie Smith recordings from the 1920s, reissued here for the first time, on what would appear to be essentially her second album ever issued, sometime around 1946-47. The Hot Jazz Classics series was part of the first wave of interest in "historic" jazz, when people began to realize the older recordings were still of interest, so many labels, legitimate or not, started reissuing rare out-of-print records for a new generation. This was one of that first wave. Columbia set C-31.


Four 78rpm discs, all very nearly mint. Just a slight few signs of minimal usage can be detected, but they are all undamaged and look almost new. They play 100% mint-- loud and clear as a bell. The cover has a little wear on the spine and binding, but is otherwise excellent. Jazz Man Record Shop stamp on inner sleeves! Anyhow it is a beautiful copy of this great collection. Way better than hearing this stuff on some flimsy LP reissue or, even worse, a CD or MP3. These 78 discs sound almost as good as the 1920s originals.
