BEVERLY KENNEY SINGS FOR PLAYBOYS was up-and-coming singer Beverly Kenney's 1958 debut for Decca after she previously recorded three LPs for the strictly jazz label Roost. (See her debut SINGS FOR JOHNNY SMITH). An intimate set of light, pretty ballads and graced by the presence of famed accompanist Ellis Larkins (who adds some fairy-dust celeste tinklings to good effect), PLAYBOYS finds the gifted Kenney in her musical element, performing songs like the sexy "Do It Again," "You're My Boy," and "Summer Romance" with perfect intonation and easy swing. Kenney would record only two more LPs for Decca before her death by suicide in 1960 at the age of 28." (Joe Sarno, Muze)

DECCA’S PINK LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were routinely distributed among the radio stations before the LP was released to the public, sometimes as much as 4 months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title.

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          CAUTION! The vinyl is only GOOD TO GOOD+, with multiple, numerous,  scuffs which are BOTH visible AND audible. The record plays with bearable BUT AUDIBLE surface noise and some pops and clicks. The record plays without skipping throughout. This record WAS play-graded.

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD- / very good minus /  (VG-).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has all three seams (top, bottom and spine) partially split,  as follows:

-        Top seam: between 6 and 8 inches  /15 to 20 centimeters.

-        Bottom seam: between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters.

-        Spine: between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters.

-        Cover has some ring wear.; On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4 (front side) and 6 (back side).

-        Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-        Cover shows some yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-        Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on all three seams

-        Cover has some tiny, faint writing on its back side (a microscopic price code written in one corner)

-        Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-        Back cover has some light yellowish stains, probably from exposure to humidity (nothing significant).

-        Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged / bent.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
