This indie-pop duo went through somewhat turbulent times to make 'The Blue Swell', involving the departure of half the original duo, yet vocalist Drew Citron here appears to be reaping the benefits of having soldiered on in extremis - dreamy, beguiling and always memorably hook-driven, this second album is a smorgasbord of hazy shoegaze textures, dreamy pop hooks and beguiling melancholia, Fans of Lush, Belly and Best Coast alike may find succour here, but there's more to 'The Blue Swell' than echoes of the '90s - these Lynchian atmospherics, sweet melodies and reverb-drenched soundscapes possess a timewarping allure.
