Description
TITLE/ARTIST: This extremely rare and highly collectible 50's LP is on the original black with silver print, Mercury Label, and is entitled "Chantilly Lace" (after his huge hit single) by the popular, but short lived, 50's RnR singer/songwriter,The Big Bopper (whose real name was JP Richardson), from 1959. It is very, very nice in appearance, espiecally for it's age and what it is. Just in case you don't know it, The Big Bopper wrote Johnny Preston's "Running Bear" and many other C&W hits before hitting it big himself with "Chantilly Lace" in 1959. He died in that tragic plane crash on February, 1959, along with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens---what a huge loss! Anyway, this is definitely one of the hardest RnR album's to find out there anymore---espiecally in good condition like this one is!
LABEL INFO: As I mentioned, the album is on the original, black with silver print, Mercury Label, MG 20402, is in MONO (as you'd expect), and is in really good overall shape----I see few serious flaws on the label--just spindle lines around the hole from good play and a little bit of wear from the years.
VINYL INFO: The vinyl is extremely shiny, clean, and nice---and, actually very close to being perfect, espiecally for it's age and what it is. There are just a few very light surface/paper lines in a few places on both sides. But, these lines are very few in number and very light in appearance-----and they have absolutely NO effect on the LP's play. Otherwise, this is whole package would be close to "like new" in condition.
JACKET INFO: Finally, the jacket is also in good overall condition, but not perfect by any means. There are some small scuff marks along the seams, a 2" seam split in the open edge top corner, a couple small crease lines along the left side, a small amount of very, very light ringwear (primarily noticable on the backside), and a very small amount of writing on the backside only (the minutes per side written in pen in two places under the song titles). Basically, I'd consider all this to be rather minor, but please check the pics below and judge for yourself.
INTERESTING FACTS: You just don't see this rare Big Bopper album out there anymore---and espiecally in this kind of condition.
