Laminated (on front) single cover with flipback + company inner sleeve. The cover is in VG+ condition, normal wear and without any major deterioration (great flips) BUT light discolouration/wear on/near corners, surface ring-halo, drill-hole on centre cover (between 't' and 'h' of Brother), small brownish stain on rear (top right corner), left spine is fully readable; for details see photos (with and without flashlight). The vinyl is in VG+ condition and plays wonderfully and without lessening in sound quality.

Big Brother are primarily remembered as the group that gave Janis Joplin her start. There's no denying both that Joplin was by far the band's most striking asset, and that Big Brother would never have made a significant impression if they hadn't been fortunate enough to add her to their lineup shortly after forming. But Big Brother also occupies a significant place in the history of San Francisco psychedelic rock, as one of the bands that best captured the era's loosest, reckless, and indulgent qualities in its high-energy mutations of blues and folk-rock

Whether Big Brother & the Holding Company would have made any waves at all in the late-'60s San Francisco music scene sans Janis Joplin could be argued. Be A Brother is a good indicator of what they would have sounded like without her amazing voice. Recorded in 1970, guitarist David Schallock and singer/songwriter/producer Nick Gravenites were added to help fill the space created with the absence of Joplin. These ten original compositions include "Home on the Strange," "Mr. Natural," "Funkie Jim," and "I'll Change Your Flat Tire, Merle" dedicated to Merle Haggard. This is a decent blues-based session similar to early Butterfield Blues Band records, which isn't a bad thing at all...(AllMusic)
