Giorno Poetry Systems catalog number GPS012-013, the 1978 compilation of tracks from John Giorno and a galaxy of his friends, all part of his Dial-a-Poem project undertaken in the mid '70s, Big Ego: The Dial-a-Poem Poets. 36 poets, artists and musicians who helped define the downtown New York scene are featured on the double-LP set including Laurie Anderson, Robert Ashley, William Burroughs, Ed Sanders/The Fugs, Philip Glass, Meredith Monk, Ishmael Reed, Patti Smith and Robert Wilson. Redcordings are from all over, the most common location being St. Marks Church. Pretty impressive set and very rare on vinyl. Cover retains its enticing vintage tones of a family portrait as only an artist could capture. Wear appears at the usual places of the corners and the edges a bit, but the centerfold is well-preserved and the back cover lacks ring wear as does the cover with but minimal surface wear. Vinyl retains shine with but the smallest signs of having been handled, perhaps a paper sleeve scuff here and there so faint its hard to see. The labels are fresh looking and faint spindle marks on only 2 of the 4 sides that I can see. I'm not trying to be OC here, just describing little details before i say this - This is a rather impressive 2-LP set of the RARE kind featuring top artiste of the 1970's and even the more bizzare expressionists of the times. I have taken multiple pics complete with ZOOM to offer forthright representation of this awesome peek into the psych's more uncanny episodes of the human element.
