My Sunday bonus item this week is a reasonably priced ORIGINAL 1953 U.S. PEACOCK RECORDS 78 RPM RECORD containing the songs titled 'Hound Dog' / 'Night Mare' from blues legend Big Mama Thornton. This is the original recorded version of the massive 1956 Elvis Presley rock-n-roll hit 'Hound Dog'. It is Peacock Records catalog number 1612. Overall visual condition of record is G at best - Record has quite a bit of surface scufffing and scratches, mostly on the B-side, some of which can be felt. I have played through both sides of this record, and it plays considerably better than it looks with the usual hissing inherent in most 78 pressings, some surface noise, and some ticks which are mostly non-distracting, no skips. There is also a chip at the outer edge on the B-side which extends halfway into the dry lead-in area and does not reach the play area, there are also two or three other very small very slightly chipped areas at the extreme outer edge on the B-side which are too small to cause any type of problem. Record has no cracks, surface or sub-surface, and no warps. I have placed a modest opening bid price in line with the condition of this record and its historic significance, I will let the bidders decide its ultimate value. This 78 record is a highly historic item which would be an essential addition to any rock-n-roll 78 record collection! Somewhat elaborate packaging will be needed to ensure safe delivery - Record will first be placed in a standard cardboard LP mailer with cardboard flats on both sides of the record inside the mailer. The mailer will then be placed inside a larger cardboard box with a couple of inches of cushioning above and below the mailer inside the box.
