Description

Big Mama Thornton (born Willie Mae) Thornton, a powerful blues singer, cut this stereo album, Stronger than Dirt  for Mercury (SR 61225) in 1969. The record is in excellent condition, and the sleeve is in very good + condition.
The tracks include two of her biggest hits, Hound Dog and Ball and Chain. The composer of many songs, Thornton wrote Hound Dog, which later was a smash hit for Elvis Presley. Ball of Chain was covered and popularized by Janis Joplin.
The album, recorded at Amigo Recording Studios in Hollywood, California, was produced by Al Schmitt. The engineer was Hank Cicalo, and the arrangers were Rene Hall and Everett Miner. John Craig designed the album, and the photos were taken by Dunsten Pereira. The liner notes were written by Leonard Aronson.
