Description
Big Star - 3rd: Sister Lovers (PVC 8933), 1985.
Recorded in 1974 and 1975, this collection of songs was originally released in 1978, long after the band had broken up, as "Big Star 3rd" to hardly any fanfare, resulting in pathetic sales. As Alex Chilton gained fame and notoriety as a solo artist, PVC records decided to re-release the album as "Big Star 3rd: Sister Lovers". The Sister Lovers moniker was actually a name given to the band, at the time, only the duo of Chilton and Jody Stephens, who were dating a pair of sisters. The band name may have been tongue-in-cheek, but the master tapes of this album feature that band name and the duo performed on Memphis radio under that name at the time, as well. Memphis guitar legend Steve Cropper appears on several tracks. Produced by Jim Dickinson. This is an original 1985 pressing.
