Description
What It Is:
This is the 2011 clear vinyl release of Big Star's third album, called III, Third, 3rd, and Sister Lovers across various issues and reissues. Sessions for this record started in 1974, and it was prepared as a test pressing by Ardent Records in 1975. From there, it stayed unreleased until 1978 when it was released by PVC Records. Unfortunately, because of various issues, including poor promotion and distribution of the first two Big Star albums, few people knew of or bought Big Star albums when they were current. It was the following years where their fame grew. By 2011, Big Star was well known, and Omnivore Records prepared a black vinyl release of Third, in the style of the original test pressing (though the box looks like a tape box -- the original test pressing was in a plain jacket) for release on Record Store Day (RSD). 2000 copies were pressed and sold out immediately on RSD. This auction is NOT for one of those records. After RSD 2011, Omnivore pressed 500 copies in clear vinyl and released them, again selling out quickly. This auction is for a sealed copy of one of those 500 clear vinyl pressings. So, this is a much rarer record than the RSD issues. I'm the original owner and have owned it since 2011. It has been stored carefully in a dark, dry, temperature-controlled environment.
