Condition:  

DISC:  Vinyl is NEAR MINT with 100% of original gloss, as clean as can be found.  Appears to have been played one or two times at most, and handled with care.  Labels are clean.  Fidelity is superb.  A gorgeous disc you will never need to upgrade. 

JACKET:  Jacket is nice VG+.  Laminated front panel is clean and glossy.  There is a few minor wear spots on seams, spine and corners.  Reverse is clean, except a few slight traces of ring wear are beginning to appear.  Cut-out drill hole at upper left corner.  Overall a very presentable  jacket to accompany the superb disc.

[1]  “Dark and mysterious.  These are probably the best words to describe the music on Intents and Purposes from trumpet player and composer Bill Dixon.  Unlike the manic frenzy that’s often found in free jazz of the same period, this album is more solemn.  There are, of course, bursts of energy from the soloists but they are subjected to the global texture of the music.  Intents and Purposes is clearly an ensemble project and not a soloist one.  The sound balance, the orchestration and the arrangements are more important than individual prowess that is only used to spice the whole, in a way similar to what Mingus did with his bands.  Only 32 minutes of music, cut in four pieces.  Two are over 10 minutes long and feature up to ten musicians (Metamorphosis 1962-1966 and Voices).  On these longer tracks, Dixon shows us he isn’t afraid of low notes or rubato and has the brilliant idea to juxtapose slow gliding harmonies to ebullient percussions, a contrast that works really well.  The two other pieces are quite short trumpet/flute duets that confirm the gloomy nature of this impressive record.”
