ULTRA MEGARARE original DECCA Records very first Long Playing Microgroove MONO press released in Chile in 195? by Decca Records, with red/silver Decca Records labels, licensed from Decca Records, Inc. USA, catalog number LTC-37021, with machine etched matrix numbers MG4426 MD in Side 1 and MG4427T4 1P 2S (“S” inverted) in Side 2. Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK” was originally released like a compilation album by Bill Haley And His Comets in 1955 but this copy doesn’t really have a clear year of release, it’s not informed in labels or cover, but we got it here in Chile in, I guess, 1957, because at the bottom right corner is the name of the cover designer with a “57” written, so I think the designer of Zig Zag (the company which made the covers of Decca records those years in Chile) signed with the year he designed the artwork cover, just like other cases of the same period. This album has an UNIQUE FLIPBACK COVER made of a single piece of thin and very fragile cardboard folded in the middle with two flipbacks at top and bottom edges. But sure the most interesting fact about this MEGARARE PRESS is the totally different and weird artwork used for front and back covers, with tracklist informed in front cover only. Back cover only informs it’s a Chilean press. In front cover the album title and tracklist are written only in English but the name of the band is written in Spanish, “Bill Haley Y Sus Cometas” (Bill Haley And His Comets). In back cover the album title is also written in English only with the name of the band in Spanish. In labels the album title is “ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK CON BILL HALEY Y SUS COMETAS” (Rock… With Bill Haley And His Comets), informing “Sings Bill Haley”, with tracklist written in English only with full credits for songwriters of each song.

But this MEGARARE PRESS also hides some UNIQUE ERRORS!!! The first song, “(We’re Gonna) Rock Around The Clock”, correctly written in label, it’s misspelled “(WE’ RE Gonna) …”. The song “Dim, Dim The Lights (I Want Some Atmosphere)”, it’s written “Dim, Dim The Lights – I Want…” in label, without brackets, and shortened and misspelled in front cover “D.M, Dim The Lights”. And the song “Thirteen Women (And Only One Man In Town)”, correctly written in front cover is misspelled “Thirteen Women – And Only…” in labels, with brackets missed. So, YES, SIRS, here you have the chance to get one more time a great classic album with an UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE PICTURE SLEEVE and UNIQUE ERRORS!!! Amazing FIND from Chile again!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in only G+ or VG- condition, with very faint ring marks in back cover, creases, moderate wear in all edges, severe in mouth edge with rips and missing parts, more evident in back cover, with a seam split in the spine, but no writings or marks of any kind, with general age browning and a big tear in front cover. The record is very thick and it’s in G+ or VG- condition both sides, glossy and clean, but with loads and loads and loads of scuffs, moderate hairlines and scratches of all sizes and in all directions. Labels on both sides are in great G+ or VG- condition, clean and clear, with minimal spindle hole wear, but with damage in both sides because someone unglued some sticker causing tears and in Side 1 it’s still glued a white paper just over the original price. The sound is a nice surprise, it’s in strong VG- or VG condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, with soft background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), constant crackles and some light clicks, pops and hiss here and there, which don’t really cause major distraction from the experience to listen this album, because the music is absolutely loud, clear and clean. Overall, it’s still a great record with an UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE PICTURE SLEEVE and UNIQUE ERRORS, with a cover which sure saw better days but it retains most of the amazing impact to see a so weird artwork and a record with still a very nice glossy and clean look, but it’s not for Minty minds or audiophiles, sound quality is far to be perfect, but somehow it keeps a very respectable and decent sound quality which won’t disappoint anyone after 59 years. And this is the chance to get this transcendental album of the rock and roll era with an UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE PICTURE SLEEVE and UNIQUE ERRORS which you won’t find in any other press worldwide!!! Yes, Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

SHIPPING (Packing and Postage)

We have an unique value worldwide:

GBP15 for weight until 1kg (usually 1 or 2 records 12" depending of thickness of the vinyl)

GBP25 for weight 1-2kg (usually 3-5 records 12")

GBP10 for one 7” record

All records will be packed outside of the sleeve to avoid damages in the cover and all records will be sent with tracking number via Small Packet or Parcel Post services.

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for.
