"Real Rock Drive" b/w "Stop Beatin' Round The Mulberry Bush"
Essex Records 310 > released in 1952
This record was released by the great Bill Haley with Haley's Comets on Essex. "Stop Beatin' Round The Mulberry Bush" borrows from a nursery rhyme, and it was just before this song came out that Haley and company ditched the cowboy outfits, donned the suits and ties, and became the Comets in 1952. Bandleader Haley had previously been a country performer; after recording a country and western-styled version of "Rocket 88", a rhythm and blues song, he changed musical direction to a new sound which came to be called rock and roll. Although several members of the Comets became famous, Bill Haley remained the star. With his spit curl and the band's matching plaid dinner jackets and energetic stage behaviour, many fans consider them to be as revolutionary in their time as The Beatles or the Rolling Stones were in theirs.
These old 45s often sound better than their visual grade because they were made with higher quality material. Some records visually look great but play lousy -- others can be in visually rough condition and sound good. This record will be shipped to you in a sleeve.
