Title:   “Grand Encounter: 2’ East / 3’ West”

Label:   PACIFIC JAZZ.   Label is flat black with silver text.  Mono pressing on medium weight vinyl, with deep groove.  Catalog number is PJ-1217.   

Date:  1956. 

Personnel:   Bill Perkins – tenor sax;  Jim Hall - guitar;  John Lewis – piano;  Percy Heath – bass;  Chico Hamilton – drums. 

Condition: 

DISC:  Vinyl is gorgeous VG++/NM, a beauty!  The playing surfaces ares immaculate, with a high luster, played a small number of times and handled with care.  Plays beautifully with superb fidelity.  Labels are clean and pristine.  

JACKET:   Jacket is nice VG+ with no major problems.  Front artwork is clean and bright.  Seams are intact except for approx 3” split at the bottom opening; there are some tiny chips along the seams and at the corners.  Reverse has darkened a bit with age.  The word “Modern” is printed in pen at the top right corner of reverse.  See following paragraph regarding signatures on the reverse side.  Overall a very nice jacket to accompany the lovely disc.

Note:  This album came from the estate of a local jazz enthusiast who collected albums for many years, a sizable number of which were autographed at performances he attended when the artist(s) appeared at clubs in the Washington, D.C., area.  This album bears signatures for Jim Hall, John Lewis & Percy Heath (Percy Heath is in 2 places).  The owner prized his collection, played them sparingly, and stored them under the best conditions.
