This is an

original 1959 Columbia 6 Eye pressing

of

Billie Holiday

"Lady In Satin"

(Columbia Records CL 1157) (Mono) (1959)

It is a 1A / 1C pressing which is about as early as you could ask for.

I have to say that I'm not a fan of mono records in general, but some of them have a real sense of depth and presence about them, and this is one of those. It just sounds "right".

The jacket has a moisture stain at the lower left corner, and a small chip, but other than that is in nice shape with no splits.  There is some writing on the back but it is so small I can't quite make out what it says.

The record is really quite beautiful.  There are no marks or scratches of any kind on the vinyl, even under intense light. There are a couple of very faint traces of what were probably fingerprints.  It is amazing to find a record this old that has survived as well as this one has. The original plastic bag type inner sleeve is included. The photos are of the actual item for sale. Not a museum piece, but a perfect copy for someone that actually wants to play it and enjoy it.  What a concept!
