THE GODDESS of blues/jazz sings her heart out on this album out with such unprecedented intensity and genuine, heartfelt emotion, that you will be left standing before your speakers, stunned and mesmerized, unable to move. This is not an album; this is a torrential rainstorm of emotions, affections, heartaches, longing…think of this timeless 1954/5 Norman Granz-produced masterpiece as a monsoon of human feeling. And, that is only a beginning. The most beautiful side of this album is its SOUND. Lady Day's voice sounds as if her vocal cords are somehow directly connected to your eardrum (via an optical fiber or high speed modem, shall we say). Her voice literally becomes a part of your inner soundscape. An eerie listening experience, not to be missed. This 1958 pressing of the album captures Billie Holiday at the very onset of her downward slide; with her voice still intact and potent, and with the intensity of her self-destructive lifestyle and emotions just beginning to show. Billie sings a variety of standards and evergreens, backed by a jazz combo of some of the best, and most competent, jazz musicians of the day such as Oscar Peterson (this is her last with Oscar - he left her shortly thereafter, following one of their fiery disagreements), Barney Kassel, Ray Brown, Charlie Shavers, Joe Newman and many other. But, mostly, the lady swings like the day of her demise is infinitely far away (it wasn't - a mere four years down the road, Lady Day would be no more). A classic David Stone Martin cover art is one of the finest examples of the mid-50's Jazz neo-expressionist aesthetics in existence, comparable only to his other works he did for Lady Day. Track listing: If the moon turns green - Remember - My man - Lover come back to me - Stormy weather - Yesterdays (our favorite Lady Day ballad) - He's funny that way - I can't face the music - How deep is the ocean - What a little moonlight can do - I cried for you.

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID)

(b)            The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(c)             The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

(e)             Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

·       COVER

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

COVER IS STRONG NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has a few small grayish spots and stains scattered along the spine and bottom seam ON BACK COVER ONLY (this affects a total area of approximately 3-4 square inches). It appears that this is a small printing defect (a residue of color from the printing machine) rather than an accumulation of dust and grime. THE CLASSIC DAVID STONE MARTIN’S FRONT COVER ARTWORK IS ABSOLUTELY CLEAN AND STAIN-FREE – SIMPLY GORGEOUS !!!.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No split seams

-         No ring wear

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents
