Description
Beautiful copy of the rare 1947 pressing of the 4-disc version of Bing's Merry Christmas 78 album on Decca A-550. Features the original and by far the best version of White Christmas—before it was finally re-recorded the next year, the newer version being on all subsequent issues of this album—as well as some wonderful songs with the Andrews Sisters. Most people have heard it, but when you hear the original 78s it is like hearing it for the first time. The sound is just wonderful on this original version of the record, and this copy really brings it out. All four discs are nicely clean and shiny, with just a bit of minor scuffing and a tiny mark or two, but nothing deep or anything more than superficial. Each one has its original shine and they all play quite near perfectly with only a touch of background noise. Just a beautiful sounding set all around. I rarely see cleaner ones, as these were commonly played a lot. The cover is in decent shape, but has the lower half of the spine torn off. Still the binding is holding well but that strip of cloth is torn. There is some heavy corner wear at the lower right as well, and some further edge wear ans a little light scuffing but it actually looks quite nice overall. A really nice copy that plays beautifully.
The songs are:
Silent Night, Holy Night
Adeste Fideles
White Christmas
God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
I'll Be Home for Christmas
Faith of Our Fathers
With the Andrews Sisters:
Jingle Bells
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Merry Christmas!
